Could end up with a chance of double revenge, with Midtjylland and Steaua in our group. Unlikely, but possible. That link illustrates that we are still in a little bit of danger of being a fourth seed, although third seed is still the most likely scenario I would suggest.
I was in Milan back in April and managed to see Inter playing Torino. I know you shouldn't make judgments on just one game (I'm going to anyway) but Inter were poor. The San Siro is magnificent though and as you say, it would be great to see Saints playing there.
To do well in a tournament you sometimes need luck in the draw.....as we did under Strachan in the FA Cup. Let's save the big guns till later....not at the beginning.
That's what I thought last year... and later never came Just think, our first game in the EL proper welcoming twice European cup winners Inter Milan to St Marys. That's what it's all about isn't it?
I'm with you - always wanted to go to the San Siro. I never thought it would be saints playing there though!
You are a purist....I want Saints to have a real run of luck and meet their only real opposition in the final. At that point, the top club go down with beri beri and an outbreak of Northam Revenge, so they play their kids and we win 8-0. Fine by me.
I doubt I'd be able to go to the game myself, just for me the whole appeal of being in Europe is the chance of playing some of the big boys. I'd definitely try and attend the home though. Braga or Zenit doesn't get the blood rushing quite so much!
Why's that? It assumes all the seeded teams win in the Europa & CL Play-Off rounds - have some of the teams with lower coefficients than us done better than expected - I've tried to keep up with the results, but have probably missed stuff.
Things will become somewhat clearer tonight, but my statement was more made on the fact that we would only need one "upset" to occur in the final round of EL qualifiers out of a whole bunch of ties (assuming that a similar "upset" in the CL qualifiers doesn't cancel that out). I think it's unlikely that every relevant result goes against us, to leave us as the best of the fourth seeds. But possible.
Astana and Osmanlispor both winning, Shkendija (20 mins left), SønderjyskE and Lokomotiva Zagreb all drawing. We need one of those to come in (West Ham need two...if they win), but if Rostov beat Ajax we will need another. I am quite nerdy about this so apologies. edit: Shkendija lost
Anyone know the forecasted dates for when our euro fixtures are to be played? Back on shift work again now and would love our games to be on when I am on earlies......
You would love it if we pulled Bilbao at the group stage, both teams progress and meet in the final with Saints knocking out the horrible lot in the semis!!
15 September, 29 September, 20 October, 3 November, 24 November, and 8 December Three of them will be 6pm KOs, three of them will be 8pm KOs. It will depend which group we are drawn in as to whether our home games will be two 6pms and one 8pm, or one 6pm and two 8pms. As far as I am aware.
