PleaseNotPoll, what's your take on no Kane, 5 goals? I said a couple of days ago that Kane not playing frees up other players and here we are, 5 goals.
I also said a couple of days ago that if we could just play League 1 teams every week, that would free up other players and we'd score more goals. Unfortunately, the FA rejected my request.
It's Gillingham. We put four past a Premier League team a couple of weeks ago. Janssen could well help to get us goals, as his holdup play looks good and he's a goal threat. The same is true of Kane though, when he's not knackered. The problem that we'll face is the one that we've had for most of our games this season, unfortunately. If we don't get players up to support the striker, then he'll be isolated and ineffective. We had tons of players around Janssen today and created a ton of chances. That's not a coincidence.
Bloody hell. Not what we needed, in my opinion. You'll field a strong team with no European football, so our backup side would struggle. I can see Pochettino putting out something of a mixed side, which probably won't be enough.
And been battered in them, too. Gillingham offered very little tonight and some of our better players had a field day. Eriksen ran the show until he was subbed off, Lamela put in 100% and our central midfield was never troubled, let alone the defence. It was an exceptionally easy game and it's hard to judge anything from it.
Not that I'm addicted to analysing our scorer videos, but... Seriously, get Onomah in front of the green screen and sort it out!
Ok, let's wait with eagerness for Saturday. As PNP says getting players up to support the striker is important and methinks Son starting with Vince will be effective.
Should be a good game mate. Like you say we'll probably field a strong team due to no European footy, so we've definitely got to take advantage of that
Job done. Pleased for the youngsters especially Winks, Onomah and Carroll - it was great to see him take the armband, doubtless it was a very proud moment for him. Hopefully, Eriksen can use this as a springboard too. Good to pull through without injuries, no major stress or exertion for the senior players, and good that the likes of Carroll and Winks were able to step up while our senior CMs are a little thin on the ground. Most importantly, Big Kev lives! Onto Liverpool, tricky game but I think we'll do better in a game like that we can rise to the occasion for, as long as injuries are kind so we can rotate the squad while keeping the quality up.
Mourinho complained about the ref against Northampton He's going to be even less happy when he sees that he's got to play City again! Bit of a bitch drawing Liverpool away. I think we should keep a similar line up to tonight though, just throw Wanyama/Dier and Toby in there.
