Oh sorry - it had started to gentrify to a certain extent 10 years ago but will always be too close to Lewisham and Sydenham to make it anything less than a late night, dangerous cess pit. When leaving Forest Hill station late at night, it always struck me how many men were just 'loitering' around. Will suit young professionals because of the short trip to London Bridge etc.
Bar today, you don't get much trouble around here any more. I dislike the fact that a lot of the old pubs have changed in to gastro crap, but perhaps that's why you no longer have men loitering around outside of the station late at night? Can't say I've personally feared walking around since I was at forest hill boys and we were at war with st Joseph's.
Catford Dogs closing down was a grievous loss. The worst thing was the Crystal Palace family living next door- neighbours from Hell. I liked Forest Hill, and the kids had a good Primary school education there before they got into a New Cross secondary school.
I went through Catford on the train last week - literally could not believe how many flats [shoeboxes] they have crammed into the old Catford Dogs track site.
If you're talking about the bird in hand, then it's very much still there and one of my favourite pubs. Quite a few charlton drink in there too
And Tony Christie's tour bus was attacked by marauding migrants in France. True story. He sang at them and they quickly dispersed.
An absolute disgrace on Southern railways again this week, and now there is a Post Office strike for 5 days again next week. Just listened to the barely coherent ASLEF leader being destroyed on Radio 4 by John Humpherys while 600,000 commuters can't get to work today. What we need now is a Thatcher-like destruction of these communist trade unions, put the strike ballot threshold at 90%+ and jail the union baron leaders for the slightest whiff of a breach. 250 fat lazy well paid trade union militants holding over half a million innocent commuters to ransom over 40 year old restrictive working practices.
SAy what you like about Millwall Bob Crow, his strikes were short, he knew when to call them off and got results.
Jason Pearce has Tweeted that he has had bad injury news after going off on Saturday - but no news of what it is. Does anyone know?
Just saw that. The official CAFC twitter has just retweeted Pearce's own tweet without any confirmation of what's actually happened. Presumably the physios don't know...
Utter madness. He would have been most welcome at The Valley. One lucky club will soon be taking on a very talented young manager.
Thought he was very good as a player for us, a real shrewd buy from curbs. As a manager he'd be even better. One of the best outside of the top flight IMO
