I've just watched Paul Jewell's interview on IpswichPlayer and in it he mentions that: Ipswich made an approach to sign Rickie Lambert over the summer, Southampton weren't willing to sell and Lambert then signed a new contract as a result. Southampton made an initial £5m bid for Burnley duo Jay Rodriguez and Danny Fox. The transfer fee for new signing Danny Fox was £1.8m Jewell believes. Saints have since gone back and made a £4m bid for Jay Rodriguez, which was also rejected by Burnley. He says Saints are throwing a lot of money about in bids for potential new players. I think Paul may have let his mouth run a little bit too much, but interesting nonetheless. Bit strange for him to be going into so much detail about another club. Adkins should give him a scouse slap later.
I think Jewell should concentrate on his own club, rather than getting involved in things that have nothing to with him. Although to be honest, he hasn't said anything that we didn't already know. All this proves is that he can read a newspaper.
Probably cheesed off because every time he goes to inquire about a player, we're in there before him and potentially with more money.
If £4 million was rejected for Rodriguez, then, as Adkins would say 'we move on'. I think even £4 million was overvaluing him.
Very interesting and im sure the don and NA will NOT be happy with this. theres hanging out your dirty laundry in public then theres hanging out other peoples! also part of me knew there was more to lambert signing a new contract than initially seemed...... glad to know he is wanted tho eh!
I think he said he was in for Rodriguez, in which case you can see why Burnley would have alerted him to the competition.
Yeah sorry about that, he did say they were in for him as well but that's broken down now so he is happy to talk about it, the same with Lambert.
So in Nige's pre match interviews he goes on about how they are the same age, old friends who went to school together and Jewell goes and reveals all. Maybe they are not as good friends as Nige thinks! That said, has Jewell done anything wrong apart from being unprofessional?
Here we all are crisitising Paul and yet it was information we actually wanted to find out from a reliable source ?
I just think it shows the differences between our two managers. I don't think Adkins would tell us about the Tractor Boys transfer details, even if he was privy to the information.
I'm not criticising Paul Jewell, as Schneiderlin Is The Goal King said, this is definitely information we all wanted to know. Still, can't help but feel that Cortese won't be happy. What do you reckon the odds are on Paul waking up with a horse's head on his pillow?
Jewell didn't say anything we didn't know or surmise, but I like the bit where he says when they go for the same player Ipswich can't compete with Southampton. Jewell comes over as an all round good bloke, but he was a bit down when warning that promotion may take longer than the fans think. Adkins also warns us about thinking too far ahead, but somehow it doesn't come over the same. We're all Duracell bunnies now. P.s. Cortese has just fined Jewell two weeks wages or a pair of kneecaps, whichever he prefers
He's just moaning about why he hasn't managed to buy the players he has wanted to. Fans probably want to know why he hasn't bought a new striker and he's saying he has tried and failed.
as I head out of the office to Ipswich, safe in the knowledge that Paul Jewell won't be negotiating with Cortese for any of our players
Jewell probably wouldn't be too happy if Nigel mentioned that he was a washed up manager with a washed up squad, whilst politely pointing out that you have to actually spend money if you want to sign players aged under 34. But there we go.
