Have been floating about on our local sites - Echo etc and see the general feeling is Burnley are holding out for 6 million. I think we should pay it or atleast meet it with a share of cash plus players to offload. We have Puncheon, mills, Dickson all left sided players that they are now in need of surely 1 or more of them would be of interest. 6 Million is not a lot for a player who can score at this level and is an international. Simple fact is... pay £6 million now or get to the prem and buy him or an equivalent for something arond £10-12 million. We got more than we thought for Chamberlain, its not ransom its business. Its a good deal for everyone concerned and if he fires 20 goals in our team which is hugely possible then £6 million will seem a snip of a price!
It may be more to do with wages and upsetting the team than about the purchase price. Also is he really worth 6 million...that's equivalent to a couple of good Championship players and their wages. I love the team spirit at the moment, don't want it wrecked.
£6 million is a lot by Southampton club standards i agree but it is not a lot in todays market, not for English talent, he is 22 and looks as though he could one day lead the line for England. he put 15 goals plus in last season in an average team, I believe like a lot of the fans we have the basis of a really good team infact better than Norwich last year, think what he could do then. Agree with the wages although potentially we could double what he is on at Burnley I think and he still wouldnt be our top earner and Cortese will know by now that the wage structure for the championship and for the Premiership will be different, I am sure there are clauses being built in to up wages on promotion and decrease on relegation, NC is an experienced business man and will surely know this. I think if we dont buy him somebody else will and it will prove a mistake. This guy is a bit of a chance but could be our ticket to the Prem!!!
3.5 million i think it was, and Peterborough are not a championship side finacially - Plus CMS is completely unproven in the championship and I believe will remain it this season, trys hard and a nuisance but the step up this year will show him for waht he really is.
I don't know a whole lot about Cortese but I am pretty sure that he will not pay a penny more than he thinks he should. If Burnley are asking for too much then just wait a couple of weeks, they will quickly lower their price when deadline day approaches...it's not ransom it's business.
There's no such thing as a sure thing but the closest thing to one is that we won't be paying £6m for a champ striker!
I reckon Burnley will be stewing on Saints offer and the fact that it's probably all paid in cash up front unlike most deals these days. I can picture Cortese in his office, feet on the desk as the phone rings off the hook from the Burnley chairman as deadline day approaches. Don't mess with the Cortese.
If you pay 6 million, he'd have to play which puts constraints on Adkins choices. Who do you leave out? Pardon my ignorance but what kind of striker is he? Who would he best work with? Serious question as I don't know anything about him.
Unless they really need the money (which accepting 1.8 million for Fox suggests), they may be happy to keep Rodriguez for this season.
Lets take a reality check. He scored 15 goals (which in my mind is nothing more than an average return for a striker from a 46 game season) in the SECOND division last season, and people think we should splash out £6 million on him?
If we did pay the £6m and the lad then struggled for Saints... I wonder how quickly it would take the same fans to slag off the club for wasting all that money? Hmmm.
