Hey mate I run a Northern Ireland Southampton Supporters Club on Facebook, just search for that and add yourself and I'll go and accept.
I highly doubt beckford would drop back to the championship, even for leicester. He plays quite a lot for everton so why would he go? Maybe if leicester offered him stupid wages.
I thought Beckford was a fairly regular starter for Everton last season? Why would they let him go? Although £3 million for Beckford is better than £6 million for Rodriguez...
Could only find 'South of England Northern Ireland Supporters Club', is that it? Seems most people disagree with my idea. I guess we don't want to lose our unity but signing Maynard or JayRod for huge money could do the same do you not think?
Its called 'Northern Irish Southampton Supporters Club' I think, with the club crest as the logo. Heading over on the 29th Oct for Boro.
Also how did you change your profile picture? Still haven't figured it out though I can see yours is quite recent
Does being born there count ? ( and having a father with a REALLY strong accent ) . If so Newtown ards 1965 . Yes I have the shirt . Hard work to get it to !!!!!
Good man, found it. Umm, go to control panel on the top right of the forum..then change avatar. It says it has to be 80 pixels but you can upload any image and it resizes it!
So getting 10 goals, playing mostly off the bench, in your first season in the PL is failing now is it? His ego's nowhere near as big as many of you seem to think but I don't think he'll drop down to the NPC anyway.
No don't think this is a player that would be happy to sit on the bus. Can't see the £3mil price tag being accurate either. Look at what championship clubs are demanding for their strikers.
Man city just bought a bloke who scored two in his first 35 mins off the bench, so i'm not impressed with Beckfords contribution.
Found it , and have asked to join . I warn you though , me and Farce book don't get on ...I am a ludite !!!!!
And he's worth the £35m, Beckford isnt worth the touted £3m, look at the responses above, not one saints fan saying we should pitch in for him. I know you are a Leeds fan and probably have some good memories of him but he has failed to impress at Everton, you said it yourself most of his games were off the bench, so he hasnt exactly set their world on fire. If you think he was that good get Ken Bates to buy him back, your welcome.
is he better than what we already have? the answer is no. if we're going to spend big it will be to improve the squad, not get poor, over-hyped divers like beckford in the club.
I wouldn't want Beckford anywhere near our club. We haven't got a player like him at the minute and there is no point in paying money for somebody who could have a negative effect on the team spirit. I remember him slabbering at Moyes when he was subbed before, wouldn't catch one of our players at that.
Adkins interview after the Ipswich game suggests he is aware of the speculation as you would expect, of us linked with strikers but did he also suggest the figures quoted we quite incorrect. I cannot quite see many NPC strikers being worth £5-6m - if so then they would be linked to prem teams. People say Maynard is c. £5m in the last year of his contract and I just cant see that as being correct. I know was a while a go but Mickey Owen went from Liverpool to Real for £8m, Ashely Young was in last year of contract and went for £16m - maybe im wrong but cant see it - all figures are paper talk and the journo's have as much a clue as the rest of us regarding the £££ as we do our business in private...
Leeds fan here, stay clear of Beckford. Don't ruin your brilliant start to the season! He would not fit well into your style of play, which is very slick and fluid, problem we had with him is although he scored a lot of quality goals he was not a great team player as much as his work rate. Great finisher but did little off the ball and expected to be fed on a plate all the time from long balls over the top. Once we sold him we saw 50+ goals come from our midfield last season so we didn't miss him. At Everton you can clearly see he tries harder for the team, he can't get away as a passenger there, but for this reason he is not as prolific at goalscoring. I don't think ego's are what you need and as you say, not Atkins' style of player from what I can see, I think Becchio would slot in nicely at Saints, but keep your hands off him Best of luck, I expect to see a top 6 finish from you guys this year, well organised and a good harmony at the club.
