Am I the only one not happy with the signing of Barton? I still don’t want that thug at my club. I don’t care that he is better than what we’ve got, he represents ALL that is wrong with society at the moment. He is celebrated for being a thoroughly unpleasant person and spends his time informing the rest of the world about the mindless, trivial minutia of his life. Where have our standards gone?

For all those who say he has grown up, did you see the Newcastle Arsenal match. Hauling Gervinho up by his shirt and then collapsing as if he’d been shot when he was slapped. I don’t want that at my club.

I hope to God that this doesn’t mean the end for Shaun Derry as a regular starter at our club.

Come on roller I applaud your stand on moral grounds and yes JB is / was a thug but I want Qpr to stay in the prem and by signing Barton we have improved our odds of achieving that.

I'm more concerned about the amount of mittals money swiss Tony is spending

Although I'd love for him to turn over a new leaf under our 'can do no wrong for the moment' ace manager and turn out to be a stellar signing, I fear you may be right Roller - I await the day when he takes a swing at Adel during a game and both get sent off - I'm happy to be proved wrong

The moral high ground in football counts for little these days and if every player who has behaved like an arsehole or worse were 'not good enough for my club' we'd never sign anyone. The game is all about greed and egos and you either embrace it or face oblivion...

Do you also want Adel to leave as he has been known to 'collapse' as well? Should Clint Hill be removed for his attempted headbutt? Yes they don't do these things all the time but then Joey Barton has only had 3 red cards in his career...hardly prolific. I'm sure at some point he'll lose it with someone but personally I think he's worth it.

Mmm...I can see both sides of this argument. Hopefully NW's well documented man-management skills will help to keep a lid on Barton's more worrying attributes. I don't like all the players we sign, I couldn't stand that little **** Routeledge for instance. But as long as Joey does the business on the pitch I think he will prove to be an excellent signing. And now that we've landed a top player, hopefully more will follow.

I would make a moral judgement on some players - Marlon King for example - Barton is hot-tempered but I think controllable. There will be problems - they follow Barton around - but NW will be up to dealing with them. We need someone level headed on the pitch with him, to pull him back from the brink at times. Derry for example, when he and Barton play together.

I honestly think he's changed. He was rightly aggrieved with Gervinho and it's not like he decked him anyway. It's a fantastic signing.

I too want QPR to stay in the Premier League, but not at all costs. I don’t want to lose pride and belief in my club, especially now after the Goons have left town.

I put up a post about where the money was coming from and what the long term effects of maybe be and result in, but no one else seemed to care.

I’m glad you are happy Sid, I sincerely hope you remain so.

There are arseholes and then there are ARSEHOLES. Have you read his Wikipedia entry. There are currently 140 articles linked to it, I would estimate over half are because of his violence on and off the field.

The Arsenal match was just an example to show that he hasn’t changed. His are not isolated incidents. To the best of my knowledge neither Adel nor Clint have been to jail for assault. I wasn’t aware that Orr had been when we signed him, or I would have voiced my concerns about him at the time.

I hope that you are all proved right, but I reserve the right to post “told you so” when appropriate.

How come you didn't reply to me?
Most astute comment on the thread!;)
Without the baggage, he'd be signing for a top top side.

I have to say that I am hardly 'over the moon', but we have to remind ourselves that whilst Joey is no angel, neither is that scumbag Marlon King, nor is he that shining light of the male species, Stan Collymore, both of whom are women haters. At least Joey has only belted men, mostly when he has been provoked. If it was you or I clumping that geezer in Liverpool, it would not have resulted in a custodial sentence and it certainly would not have hit the front pages. I have done worse than Joey and managed to avoid a prison term (just) and I turned my life around. I used to love a tear up (no weapons) when I was younger, and as long as it was man to man, it was all OK. There are plenty of worse things he could have done. He is a flawed talent, yes, but give the guy a break.

Blimey mate, you're not happy are you?
I asked on another thread.........will you cheer and clap him if he plays well or scores a goal?
Also, there probably aren't many footballers that would stand up to your kind of scrutiny and we NEED signings!!

To be fair roller Barton was singled out by arsenal - see songs stamp and subsequent ban. Barton just has to learn if that is possible to not retaliate.

I agree I don't want success at any price. Barton is a fine line for me but I like his strength of character although I can live without the violence. I think he has matured but can still lose it too easily.

On balance as they say in the den 'I'm in'.

If it had been marlon king or god forbid Lee bowyer Im not sure it would have sat well with me

    I wasn’t disagreeing with you!

Without that baggage we wouldn't have got close to him. Newcastle would have been fighting to retain him, not pushing him out the door.

We can all have our reservations Roller, I, for one, wouldn't give someone like Barton the time of day, but footballers are a breed apart now. I know one arsehole who is a Conference player on over £1,500 a week and you'd think the way he behaves he was an England international. Adulation and over-inflated egos can produce some very nasty cases and Barton is perhaps the most high-profile example. Sadly, it's all part of the oxymoron 'The beautiful game'!
