Taylor is a free transfer, but I understand we are paying him more than Sunderland offered him. I think he is an improvement over what we have already, but that assessment is of course based only on his form over the last couple of seasons. Here's hoping Lyle Taylor can bag us 20+ goals this coming season from the better service he should get here, over that he was working with at AFC Wimbledon.
8/10 sounds fair. A year ago if asked the same question about Ben Amos I would only have said 6/10, but he did far better over the season, deserving a 9/10. Forwards coming to Charlton for several seasons now have failed to replicate their best form from before they joined us. I'm hoping Lyle Taylor will be the exception.
Lot's of fans react the same way with every signing... Ignoring the fact that for many years the vast majority of our signings have been complete duds. Having said that, it wouldn't take much to improve this current squad...
Remember Lyle Taylor playing against us for Staines a few seasons back - looked pretty decent - we then signed him and he never played for us. He has scored 26 from 138 starts at League 1 level (a goal every 5.31 games) so not sure if that makes him decent. His League 2 record is much more impressive (25 from 68) so one for the future
Taylor has scored 24 league goals for AFC Wimbledon in the last two seasons. That's 24 from 89 appearances. 1 goal every 3.7 games. Not the best scoring rate ever, but better than some. Taylor's scoring record in the 3rd tier from five or more seasons ago is of little relevance in 2018.
