Good article. Especially telling is the contract offer to Joe Aribo. - https://www.independent.co.uk/sport...tball-league-preview-league-one-a8475686.html Hopefully, our guys will ensure that this finds it’s way into the Belgian press. A truly shocking revelation about halving Joe Aribo’s contract offer: “Now, the only sellable young player left is 22-year-old midfielder Joe Aribo. The club is not doing a good job of keeping him. Charlton offered Aribo a new contract at the start of the summer, changed their minds, and offered him half as much money instead. Other players have gone through the same process. Aribo has Duchatelet has relied in the past on selling academy players to stem Charlton’s losses: they got £3.5m for Joe Gomez in 2015, £8m that could rise to £11m for Ademola Lookman in 2017. Now, the only sellable young player left is 22-year-old midfielder Joe Aribo. The club is not doing a good job of keeping him. Charlton offered Aribo a new contract at the start of the summer, changed their minds, and offered him half as much money instead. Other players have gone through the same process. Aribo has just one year left now and if Charlton were offered close to £1m – Southampton and Derby County are interested – they would sell.“
No wonder that none of the players are accepting their contract offers. It just gets worse. I can feel an angry demonstration coming on.
It would appear that Roland wants to cover his losses for another month. In the process he will make the club even more unsellable. Reminds me of Nixon's Madman theory of war.
Honestly, what is there left to cut back on or sell? What exactly is his £50million valuation for? In the current market Charlton Athletic is worth less than Kyle Walker. Madness.
Begs the question - what on Earth is CARD doing ? They should be hammering the message every day about a protest or boycott at the first home game. You can’t unleash the mob if you don’t have one organised.
Silly question but one that has been asked before, by one of our esteemed Millwall fans. If there’s been loadsa cutbacks, how are we still losing £1m a month?
Not sure if this has already been mentioned, but has anyone else read Will Magee's excellent article in today's i newspaper? He writes from the perspective of a Sunderland fan and rightly laments how his club (and ours) has slumped since the legendary 1998 playoff final. It's a bittersweet piece, to say the least. https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/...play-off-final-clive-mendonca-kevin-phillips/
