Roto, fantastic strike rate from Butterly! On form, though, if Emerald Wilderness runs anywhere near to his mark of 91 when 6l behind Highland Knight in a Class 2 over this distance at Sandown, his best price of 12/1 looks outstanding. PS. I like your write up about Amitola. I hope he wins for you.
Whilst idly browsing tomorrow's card at Stratford I have spotted a very interesting runner in the opening novice hurdle. The horse in question is World Heritage and I find it interesting for a couple of reasons: Firstly, it is ridden by AP for one R Eddery who (the BHA website reliably informs me) is one Cornelius Robert Eddery - does anyone know anything about this fella? Is he related to Pat & Paul? Secondly, World Heritage started his horse racing life with Pascal Bary in France where he won his maiden, finished 2nd in a G3 and then 2nd in a G2 behind Debussy - clearly a decent performer. He then moved to said Mr Eddery and ran the Earl of Sefton Stakes and a couple of listed events before dropping down to handicap company. Last seen well down the field in a class 3 at Newmarket off a mark of 94. Could be an interesting recruit to the NH scene and it will be interesting to see how he fares on debut in what looks a pretty decent Novice Hurdle for this time of year with Tatispout a decent yardstick.
OddDog, If its the Robert Eddery I used to know, he is Pat's older (I think) brother. He used to be in charge of the 2-year-olds at Peter Harris's Pendley farm stables. Very knowledgeable.
aylesbury gas I think you are right - I found his website (which needs a bit of work ) http://www.robertedderyracing.com/
Oddy I just saw a headline on MSN.com saying 'Fugitive cow surrenders in Germany'. Have they ousted Merkel?!
Oddy, i have just been talking about that very race and thought i had the winner ingleby sprit, was told it will be something special that beats it, 2 hrs later its withdrawn, could that something special be world heritage, hopefully will find out BPG penciled in for the 15:20 Newcastle on monday, hopefully i will let you know on sunday at same meeting Dave O has Cool Rythem, wins im told 17:20 stay frosty
Topclass it's actually a pretty cool story - a cow called Yvonne escaped from a farm in Bavaria in May and all subsequent attempts to catch her had failed. She even rammed a police car and was on the run for 100 days until she was finally caught today and returned to her farm. One of those stories that pops up in summer when there is nothing else happening and makes the headlines.
Interesting first race at Brighton (well, relatively speaking). The fav has an obvious chance but I worry about the weight so have had a wee dabble on Fallon's mount Disturbia - sounds like a good title for a psychological thriller.
OddDog, you're as crazy as me! I think you were probably chasing Yvonne in your dreams - with your wellies on. Or maybe not in your dreams!
Not my part of the country Tam - Bavaria is more SwanHills neck of the wood. I'm also more of a sheep man myself, being a Yorkshireman
The first at Chepstow looks a cracker - 7 2YO Geldings up against 4 Fillies Small e/w fancy for the Dunlop filly Stickleback - lets see if Manduro can chalk up a win
Wrong side of the Pennines, OddDog! Never mind, at least you're a Northerner, although supporting the Owls is a bigger cross to bear than watching the Clarets!
Tam I've been in Berlin since 1994 so I have (thankfully) missed our slide down the divisions. I was actually lucky as I started going regularly in the early 1980s when we got promotion to the old first division under Howard Wilkinson and then had a good few years under Ron Atkinson and Trevor Francis. In fact it all started going wrong when I left for Germany Always liked a lot of the Lancashire clubs. Remember playing Burnley in the FA Cup in the 80s (maybe the year we got to the semis and lost to Everton??) I think we got a 1-1 at Turf Moor and won the replay 5-0 at Hillsborough. I was stood on the kop that night and have never been so squashed in my life - I think there were something like 45000 there and a good following from Burnley.
