Two landmarks could be achieved against Port Vale – a sixth home win in a row for the first time in the football league and the Blues’ 1000th goal in the football league. We’re on a great run of form whereas Port Vale have dipped a bit in recent weeks so we should be going into the game full of confidence. Vale are still perfectly capable of causing us problems though and are very much in the running for the automatic promotion places, so there is no room for any complacency.

Rendell could return, but Blooms may miss out with a broken nose picked up against Cheltenham in midweek and Winfield is still suspended. My team would be:

    Bull
    McCoy-Westwood-Johnson-Straker
    Ainsworth-Lewis-Bloomfield/Donnelly-Betsy
    Rendell/Strevens-Beavon

Our home form has been excellent lately, but we haven’t won a game by more than one goal since September in the league at Adams Park. So if we get ahead against Vale I would really like us to kill the game off and save us fans those last minute nerves and praying for the whistle!

    Any thoughts on the game?

I think this could be a tough one.

New Vale manager Gannon grabbed his first win against Rotherham in midweek, which is sure to have been a boost to the confidence of the side. I think on paper the sides are pretty evenly matched so it's shaping up to be another close, hard fought home game. Personally I would keep the team the same as it was for the Cheltenham match but bring in Donnelly for Bloomfield, just to make sure we keep our creativity in the centre. Betsy has been getting a lot of criticism lately, but much of it is undeserved, so I'd keep him in. The only thing I would say about Betsy is that at the moment he seems to have a tendency to hold the ball up a little to long which allows the opposition to funnel defenders back.

Another nailbiting one, and hard to predict. I will say either 2-2 or 2-1 to us.

I'll go along with 2-1. But I'm always worried when records are at stake.

It's interesting that Waddock defended Betsy in the press this week after hearing some boos aimed at him on Tuesday. The people booing are being out of order, you never boo your own players. But Betsy hasn't been quite at it at times this season. JSwwfc's point about him holding the ball up too long is something that's frustrated me a lot lately. He brings the ball forward really well and is a huge threat for us with the ball at his feet running at defenders, but his decision making needs to be sharper when he finds himself in all those great positions he gets in to. One thing for sure though, when he's on form he's unplayable at this level.

revenge for the narrow defeat at vale earlier in the season 3-1 to the blues beever betsy and ainsworth with the goals.the crowd should get off betsys back even when he is not playing well he still creates chances and we are lucky to have him at our club.

Betsy is just being scapegoated. For whatever reasons, Wycombe fans always need to have one player to deride and criticise, whatever the result or performance. Bennett is another one who gets lambasted for no particular reason, yet Johnson is lauded as a cult hero in comparison, despite there being little between our 4 centre halves in terms of ability.

afternoon js as you know i am a big leon fan but i do support whoever takes his place and i personally thought bennett had a good game on tuesday night.thats why we are doing so well this season because we have utilised the squad we have, every one that has come into the side has done well and its not about the first eleven players on the pitch they have all played their part.

We are very lucky to have a player like Betsy of course he has his poor games but a player like that always will, he is the only outfield player to play every single game this season I think that shows how important he is to wwfc!

This should be a good game between 2 teams who like to get the ball down and play football. Im going for a 3-1 win for the blues (Ainsworth, Betsy and Rendell) but itll be a tough one.

I suppose Vale will give Leon Johnson 10/10 for his efforts on their behalf. I would have felt for him if we had lost. Thanks to Aldershot we haven't lost ground on Chesterfield. I look forward to the report.

a good game between two teams who play good football i thought a draw was a very fair result although vale could have nicked it with the penalty but thank god bully saved it well.i missed the torquay home defeat through illness and i am glad i did because they ripped us apart by the reports i got from mates at the game but getting back on track i thought vale were the best team to visit adams park this season and if i was a vale fan at the game i would have been dissapointed to come away with a point after having a chance to win it with the penalty.vale matched us all over the park and despite our late pressure we couldnt find the winner.all in all a very good game between two sides who should be there or thereabouts come may.a good atmosphere in the terrace and the woodlands made some noise so all in all nothing to complain about.

According to the report I read Rocky he also sliced the ball into the net for their goal. Is that right? Bit of a nightmare for him if he did; could have beaten us all on his own :emoticon-0170-ninja

I thought it was a good game today and we probably did enough to win, with a bit more decisive finishing in front of goal.

    Top players for me were:
Bull - The best we have had, even more consistent than Martin
McCoy - Speed, strength and confidence
Westwood - Occasional distribution mistakes, but otherwise superb defending and going forward. Should get more MOMs
Lewis - Cracking game. All over the place, controlled and accurate.

Mentions also for Betsy, who did some v good stuff in the 2nd half and Ainsworth, who had a good 1st half.

I thought Vale had a couple of good players, esp No 14 on the left, Martin. Very fast for a big lad and a sweet left foot.

Also, they didn't come to waste time or kick us off the pitch, which made for a good game.

I also agree with Rocky. Leon was solid. Penalty looked harsh from where I was.

Lewis really impressed and McCoy. Really enjoyable game to watch - it is just a pity we just cannot seem to make more chances count! Great goal by Donnelly, but with a little more conviction in front of goal we could have been in front before the goal came - Great save (again) by Bull. Haven't seen the game on tv last night, will have to wait and watch on the Website. Other results (Chesterfield) were kind to us. Would have been great though to have got all three points. PV looked capabale though and I am not too dissapointed. I brought a mate along who had never seen Wycombe before ( I am trying to spread the word with work colleagues !) After 15 minutes he asked my about McCoy and where we had picked him up from. He was impressed. And hopefully he wil improve as time goes on.

A draw was a fair result overall. We had a lot of possession but didn't do enough with it whereas they had much the better chances and we can thank Bull for keeping them out again.

The penalty was very harsh, especially as we had a clear penalty for handball denied not long before. Johnson was unlucky with the own goal, not much he could do with a great ball in from their player. Although McCoy let him get past too easily I thought.

Donnelly looked good and took his goal really well. Just needs more game time as he faded late on. Much better from Betsy, he looked up for from the start.

Interesting that Waddock put Rendell and JPP on together when looking for the win. Beavon and Strevens are a great pairing and give defenders a torrid time, but they don't have that strikers instinct of getting into goal scoring positions. They were out wide trying to create chances too much yesterday when they should have been in the box looking to get on the end of something.

A decent atmosphere again. Pitch looked bad though, very bobbly and looked like players had trouble getting the ball under control.

A good point, our first draw in 17 games. No record 6 wins in a row then. And no 1000th goal either as the stats people at the club got it wrong and we scored it weeks ago!
