We’ve got an option of a replacement if that happens, we just have to show faith in Angel Gomez. If that happened I wouldn’t be so bothered, I’d rather he went on deadline day with no replacement than stayed against his will.

It's a massive leap of faith to start playing him when he's not been given any time up to now, especially as replacement for what is still our most productive and threatening CM player, regardless of how half arsed he can be and usually is.

We'd certainly not be competing for top four, and I think it's essential we do or else the whole rebuild get's set back even further.

We need experience in the midfield. And Matic isn't really an option as he'll be one year older and one year even less mobile.

I think the lad is more than capable of playing for the first team, perhaps not to replace Pogba but he’s far too good to be playing for our u23 team now.

Pogba won’t get us top 4 if he doesn’t wanna be here so for that reason I’d get rid regardless.

    Look at the first team

    De Gea*
    Shaw*
    Lindelof
    Bailly/Smalling*
    Young*
    Matic*
    Pogba*
    McTominay
    Martial*
    Rashford*
    Lukaku*

Those with an * by their name either have contract issues and/or not good enough/not committed enough.

It’s no surprise that the squad is not performing, that’s got to be fixed. They’re not all crap, the mess just needs tidied up so that everybody is happy to play for United because we have seen what this squad is capable of when they’re on it.

I'd be happy for Pogba to leave, it's not as if I actually want him to stay, but he would need to be actually replaced.

If he goes to Real, we should secure the experience of Kroos for a couple of seasons and supplement that with Longstaff/Rice (i'd prefer Rice personally as he's a season further up the food chain) and also use Fred, Mata and McTominay.

Even then, we'd still be short on experience in midfield to be relying on Gomes and the like and there's no guarantee at all we'd even get Kroos in return. We'd more likely end up with Bale, who could also play as ACM anyway so no big deal if we didn't get Kroos.

At centre half I'd be happy with just Alderweireld this window, assuming Maguire's head is turned by City and/or the cost escalates as a result). He'd play alongside Lindelof with Smalling as experienced back up (and Jones if he's not sold). Then you've got Tuanzebe as the youngster pushing to play first team. We'd still need to buy another in winter I reckon.

Get Dan James, switch Rashford to the right and play Martial as centre forward. Get rid of Lukakau and use Greenwood as back up. We could then get in a Dybala or Icardi? Apparently Lukaku is wanted in Italy also an exchange on either.

Kroos signed a new contract yesterday and is a big player for Zidane so I can’t see him coming here now.

They have others I’d take, namely Isco and Asensio but Varane is the one I’d be trying for and certainly not the ****e like Courtois or Keylor Navas. The ball is in our court on this one.

Yeah, Varane would be good, didn't mention him as he's not a replacement as such.

Isco would be and if we got both then it's a good deal, just can't see those two leaving the comfort of RM to try to get us back in business. I could with Kroos.

I genuinely reckon if we get anyone it would be bale, so we're better off pursuing those other options as well. It can't be denied he'd add class and experience at ACM though.

A good first signing, nice and early too.

My sons will be gutted but the kid was going somewhere, I'm glad it's to United

Seems like it's nearly done. Really pleased we're trying to do business early.

    £15m is a great price.

Have no idea how accurate this is, but several papers reporting it so posting it here.

Manchester United have emerged as frontrunners in the race to sign highly-rated Benfica teenager Joao Felix after reports in the Portuguese media claimed they had agreed to meet the £92m exit clause in his contract.

We revealed last month that no fewer than seven Premier League sides had been on scouting missions to witness Felix for themselves, but it was Juventus who were most strongly linked with his signature; the Italian champions ready to cash in on Paulo Dybala in order to finance a move for the 19-year-old.

However, Portuguese newspaper Record claims it is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side who have acted first and have met the huge €105m exit clause in his contract – with the parties now in talks over what would be a club-record swoop for United.

Felix is highly rated but I must confess I know nothing about him.
James is exciting me more, I think we need hungry players who want to make a name for themselves by showing what they can do, the last few years have shown us that players who have "made it" already couldn't give a ****.

I agree. This Felix lad is only 19 though. He's come through Benfica academy and seems to have a lot of potential. A midfielder and regarded as a really good playmaker and scores goals.

It's off-putting the price is so high though.

It all depends on the character with big transfer fees where young players are concerned, people like Depay and Martial suddenly think they are too good to work hard, others continue to push themselves (Mbappe would be a decent example of that).

I honestly don't think you will. I reckon a huge amount needs doing and I'm really not sure Ole is the man for the job. No doubt he loves the club and he's a nice enough guy (who isn't compared to Mourinho?), but I'm not sure he has what's required.

But that sort of money is nothing when you consider we can get five years out of him and sell him when he is a year into his second contract for what could well be half that again when he's still 24. Long-term thinking, long term planning and investment.

There are a number of reasons I mention the price, not least of which the added pressure on a player coming in at such a price to shine immediately, as well as the danger of him at 19 believing he's "arrived", or the attention he'll get from the media and they will be looking at any opportunity to write him off as a flop.

Forget the price, imagine if an 18 year old Ronaldo was coming to the club today from Sporting Lisbon. Just thinking back to the idiots who were writing him off in his first season, this kid would be up against it even more the way things are today.

Not that we're necessarily buying Felix anyway.

Joao Felix is a baller no doubt.

The fact is there’s a lot of smoke and surprise surprise it’s United linked with him. My guess is that his agent is creating all of it, tried and trusted method of getting new contract or creating a fake bidding war.

United are not getting him, simply because he’s exactly the type of player we need and for that reason Ed Woodward will go after the exact opposite, somebody like Ozil.

I'm really not sure about Isco.

Every time I've seen him play he's been very good, but he seems like one of those players who's well suited for La Liga but just won't have the time on the ball (or the physical strength) to succeed in the Prem.
