Us lot are like the var panel can't agree and we all see things differently .that's why I like it on here
The problem there is that's a statement that has been used for about 2-3 years now mate. I actually think there's a very strong case to say Poch's management in that time frame has decreased. More mistakes, more odd decisions, more unnecessary formation tinkering. The CL run papered over a dismal season for us last year and we've progressively gotten worse ever since the 16/17 season, ultimately that lies with the manager.
Couldn't agree more ,it's amazing how we see things that need changing yet poch time and again makes the same mistakes
22 times our playmaker/magician lost the ball...more than some players in the Greek National League managed to. How many tackles did Toby pull out of? How many chase backs did he give up? They are different roles therefore the 2 players will be judged differently...I'm not in love with Toby but I can see his commitment. I can also see a lack of it in Eriksen and I refuse to be convinced that I've imagined it.
In the PL, Spurs are currently conceding goals at the same rate they did in the 2016/2018/2019 seasons. That is stable (in spite of various injury outcomes) , and more importantly, less than 40 goals (which statistically is a strong trait of PL teams that finish top 4) .
I like poch he's been a breath of fresh air but look back at some of his decisions in the big games and sometimes wonder if we had a proven winner as a manager would we have won more trophies?.
A dismal half season surely. Alright we weren't pulling up trees in the first half of last year, but we stayed in contention for the title until a long way into the season. After 20 games we were 2 points behind City. Pochettino deserves our trust to pull us out of this slump, I think we need to give him some time. We are seeing the end of the team we had doing so well for so long and the manager needs to build a new one.
If we continue with the current ratio we've started with this season, we could potentially see a GA figure of around 42-45 at the end of the season. And the defensive problems were really starting to kick in around February/ March last season so it's not even if we've just had an unusual bad start defensively, it's been a problem for a while now. This is why I don't think any praise needs to be going to Toby when looking to criticise Eriksen. Neither player has been a beacon of light for the other to follow. Both aren't playing to their maximum capability.
Our ratio of games to goals conceded is 5:6. By 35 games, goals conceded will be circa 42, with 3 games remaining.
Likewise I love Poch for where he has taken us and I want him to deliver with us However, I have often thought a "better" manager would have delivered a trophy for us with the immense talent we have had. Our first team was being valued at over a Billion quid a few seasons ago. Poch doesn't learn from his mistakes and unfortunately instead of knuckling down to want of a better phrase it seems like he is going all Mourinho on us and the pessimist in me is saying this time he will take the Madrid job when ZZ gets the tin tak. I could be imagining this with a sprinkling of paranoia but it feels like he's kicking up dust to cause some issues. I haven't once seen Poch smile on the touchline this season...plenty times I see a shake of the head and a retreat to the dugout. That could just quite simply be that he's right and the team are not responding to him which opens up another can of psychological worms for all involved.
Eriksen was poor yesterday and was lucky to stay on, indeed I’m sure he wouldn’t have if Moura hadn’t gone down with cramp. I imagine that forced a precautionary change. I don’t want to read too much into the result last night because it’s a tough place to go play football, but the performance was poor in so many ways. Olympiacos have one or two bright players but really we made our own downfall and that’s far more frustrating than simply being outplayed. Even more so if what we’ve heard about players not delivering on a gameplan is true. I’m a big Poch fan and have so much time for what he has done for us during his time here. We should never forget the impact he had in his first few years. But I think I’m right in saying that this is now his longest stint managing a club and that brings its own challenges. A lot of managers bring in new coaches (I think this was a classic SAF tactic to change things up during his tenure at United) and of course keep the playing squad refreshed, which we’ve managed to do this summer but possibly not to the extent that was needed after the previous lack of transfers. Poch needs to learn to keep the momentum he built through his first few years at the club, if he hasn’t already lost it. It’s a big concern that has been bandied around on here for a year or more now. How does he evolve the ‘project’ now? I’m at a loss as to next steps. This sounds quite negative and probably more negative than I mean it to - I don’t think we’re in a crisis but there are clearly issues that need addressing. But if it was as simple as saying that then we wouldn’t have the issues, and I have to start to question Poch’s control of the squad mentality and some of his tactical and selection calls. If that attitude has also permeated the squad then we really do have a problem.
And if we score at an equivalent rate, we will only score 63 goals. I assume you are going to ask the question of Eriksen on that, in an equivalent manner as you have for Toby ...
Kane's remarks after the game struck a chord of panic with me and literally kept me up last night mulling things over. I don't think it is crazy to ask the following question in terms of assessing the true extent of the 'rebuild' Poch so clearly wanted this summer: We have completed 'Chapter 1' of his project. Now, which players in the current squad can we look at and say with confidence will/should be a part of his plans for Chapter 2? Given a window of 3-5 years, the list is pretty darn thin. In fact, it is pretty much the size of a starting XI: Hugo Foyth Dave Davies Sess Tanguy Winks Alli Gio Son Kane I would say that there are huge question marks (for varying reasons) or straight-out crosses hanging over every other member of the squad.
You can assume what you like but you’ve clearly not been reading my posts in full to understand the point I was making with Spurly/ Rocky when talking about the form and attitude of Eriksen and Toby. Both have been poor and both aren’t setting a good enough example to one another or the rest of the squad.
I didn't see any lack of commitment from Eriksen. Quite the opposite, in fact. He was bloody terrible, but he kept fighting to retrieve balls that he'd given away with ****ty passes. Both of which were very unlike him. He normally runs about, but hates putting a foot in.
Yup. Only watched second half and when he lost the ball you could see the effort he was running hard to get it back.
