Let’s hope the voters are more switched on, and prepared to do the right thing, than Corbyn and Swinson.
So there we have it. We are well and truly in the grip of a hard right wing bunch of lunatics. If this doesn't wake up the sense of decency in people who were unsure about the Tories, then nothing will. This is about as dangerous as it gets, and is a clear indication that personal freedoms, human rights and democracy itself is now under serious attack.
Not too sure the comment about "absurd religion nonsense" really helps build bridges - live and let live live. I do agree with your sentiment, as I too would like to know what the actual charge is, as I keep hearing "Labour is anti-semetic" without knowing what the heck it is they've actually done. With the Tories, I can point to vans telling migrants to go home ( https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-24755547 ), the Windrush scandal (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windrush_scandal ) or Boris Johnson's letterbox muslims ( https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/20...-wrong-yes-burka-oppressive-ridiculous-still/ ). I can examine the facts for myself, decide whether the media coverage is fair and come to my own conclusions. It's perfectly possible that similar scandals have plagued the Labour party in relation to charges of anti-Semitism, but without knowledge of the charge against them, it's hard for me to judge the situation for myself.
Read then all up until the last couple. Same twist and storylines, but good fun, easy reading. I was gutted when Cruise took the reigns to play Reacher but delighted to hear that he’s being ditched for a new actor and a TV series.
Not sure that Corbyn is as much pro Palestine as pro fair play and stopping Israel from continually overstepping the mark, with regards to the way they are still claiming Palestinian land as their own and killing anyone who gets in their way. That’s not anti Semitic, that’s being a decent and concerned human being, although his enemies will have you believe otherwise. True to form, though, the BBC 1pm news bulletin spent around 10 minutes on the Rabbi’s comments, with a very brief mention of the issue of Islamophobia in the Conservative party, that has been referred to the EHRC and is led by a man who has frequent history of making racist remarks. The whole reporting of this stinks.
Check out the Rabbi’s twitter page, and you’ll see quite a few comments from Jewish people who definitely do not share his views. You won’t hear any of that mentioned on the BBC either.
The Beeb has gone SO pro-government it’s ridiculous. Their whole reporting is slanted ..... I used to trust them, but now I won’t watch. Scandalous from a “public” broadcaster .......
Labour peer Alf Dubs, a Jewish refugee from Nazi Germany, has distanced himself from the Chief Rabbi’s statement. I was listening to a discussion of the whole antisemitism/islamophobia Labour/Tory situation on 5 Live this afternoon, which was very even-handed as far as I could tell. The whole problem for Labour is precisely the difficulty of being anti-Zionist without appearing anti-semitic. Most people with a brain cell can tell the difference, but tabloid readers are easily confused.
Corbyn could help his cause with this by issuing a statement specifically condemning Antisemitism and saying that it has no place in the Labour Party. But when asked he replies with all racism is bad, No ****, why dilute the message. Being balanced on this and on where he sits on Brexit will hurt him, we don't live in nuanced balanced times.
Something else from the Labour manifesto. Votes at 16 and automatic registration for voting. They have to get in because this alone could keep the Tories out for ever.
Whereas the Tories want to decrease the powers of the HoL to hold up government business, remove Section 24 Emergency Motions, remove the ability of the Supreme Court to rule on domestic issues completely, and give the government sweeping “Henry VIII” powers to make laws independent of Parliament. People who voted Leave to restore Parliamentary sovereignty won’t even notice of course.
A lovely put down in the European Parliament today by Molly Scott Cato of the Green Party, on a Brexit Party thicko:
Scotch that up yer rusty Rowland, if there's space with yer head already stuck in a dark and musty place, ain't no sunshine in your life!
BBC news at 6pm, another 10 minutes of anti Corbyn/anti Semitic diatribe, despite having mentioned that there had been another complaint against the Tories for Islamophobia. The complaint against the Tories is dealt with by some meaningless waffle from Johnson that is accepted without question, whilst the complaint against Corbyn is cemented by wheedling out those Jews that agree with the rabbi. No talking to the pro labour Jewish groups for balance. No mention of the rabbi being a friend of Johnson. No mention of Johnson being the editor of the Spectator when an anti Semitic, holocaust denying reporter (Taki) was writing anti Semitic bile. And no talking to any leading Moslems to get a balance as to how THEY feel living in the climate of fear created by the Tories. Laura Poisonberg over egging the case against and also totally ignoring the Islamophobia complaint. Sorry guys but I am really beginning to lose my **** at the total unfairness of the country we call home.
