Julia Lee - First female to referee a men's Rugby League match.

Now I know this board has certain viewpoints about the tubbylards, but did Gwylam do the shortlisting?

Yes and thats hidden away in the insignificant wastelands of North Hull whilst the eggchasers get the prominent A63 gateway to Europe straight through our city!
Pete Skipper Bridge before this rugby tart but I'll calm down if it's Bilocca Bridge.

    Lillian by a country mile.

Got nowt against Billy W but let's face it, he's famous enough.

And rightly so by the way.

50 years campaigning for a fundamental human right.

And then you die a year before you achieve your aim.

Good lad. Typical Hull. Knows what's important and gets on with it. Resilient. Doesn't give up.

But Lillian is more one of our own.

Christ knows, those days are gone but less than 50 years ago my relations - and many of yours - were being sent out to do a **** of a job, in ****ish conditions and no ****er was looking after them.

No effective radio and no medical facilities when sailing midwinter into Icelandic waters.

You did everything one handed because you never let go of the rail.

Why? Because being swept overboard was the end. No way back.

You were detailed for hours on end to smash ice on deck to prevent build up which would cause the trawler to turn turtle.

You did that for weeks on end. Then had 3 days home and then started again.

    And many died.

Because no one was looking out for them.

And Lillian and the other Headscarf Revolutionaries started to do that.

    And she died unrecognised.

    With no thanks from us.

    Or anyone else.

    And that's a shame.

    She's a massive part of Hull's history.

Maybe not in the Wilberforce league but she needs honouring.

    Name a bridge after her.

    Or whatever.

But most of all, appreciate what she and the others did.

    Ashbee Arch?

When will he finally get fitting local recognition?

Maybe not until after the Allams leave. Its a disgrace.

Ern's house will become a shrine! And punks and skins and Rastas will all gather round and all hold their hands in sorrow for their fallen leader!

Here's another one you might appreciate.

    About another local hero.

Who saved the downtrodden and oppressed.

And went unappreciated throughout his life.

    Oh, Cliff
Sometimes it must be difficult not to feel as if
    You really are a Cliff
When fascists keep trying to push you over it
    Are they the lemmings?
    Or are you Cliff?
    Or are you, Cliff?

Reckon it'll be Wilberforce, though it should be Bilocca.

HTF did she get shortlisted ? Of all the famous people to come from this city is a female RL referee seriously in the top five ?
On that score is she more worthy then Ebeneezor Morley who wrote the rules of Association Football ? Or Alan Hardaker MBE who founded the FL Cup and was the secretary of the FL when England hosted and won the World Cup, and he played for Hull City reserves.
Not that I'm pushing those two forward but it does go to show the hidden agenda does exist in this city to promote RL.

The short list chosen by local schoolchildren, allegedly.

please log in to view this image

    David Burns @bbcburnsy

The new bridge over the A63 on Castle St in #hull will be named after one of the following.....

    1. Julia Lee
    2. Mary Murdoch
    3. Lil Bilocca
    4. Uncle Tommy (Thomas Ransom)
    5. William Wilberforce

The names have come from local schoolchildren and will go to a public vote.

"The names have come from local schoolchildren..."

The morbidly obese ones that are always the last to be picked for any sports team?

The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
