We can absolutely go up automatically, nobody is standing out I just think we seem to be losing our grip at a key time.
Poor performances and results at a key time.

We've just had the hardest three games we could have and our run in is better than most.

Win tomorrow and we'll be joint second, I'd have taken that when Parkinson took over.

It just smacks of failing to perform when the acid test comes along which happened last season as well.
Having watched our last half dozen games I don’t go into tomorrow with any confidence at all.

One of those games was against the team we play tomorrow who we beat 3-0 four games ago ....

... as they've just lost their best player I'm totally confident.

They've won one game, narrowly, since Christmas and were just walloped by Southend who'll soon be relegated.

If you don't have any confidence at all you're not a Sunderland supporter.

The lack of confidence is down to how poor we’ve looked lately,
Other teams are also poor as well granted. We just don’t seem to win when the chips are down.

We beat Wycombe 4-0 when the chips were down.

A Wycombe side on the slide. When we’ve played sides in form we’ve folded like a knackered old deckchair on Hendon beach.

Look of you’re brimming with confidence good for you. I’m not looking for a row.

    You have a nice evening.

I’d say a team which had taken 1 point from its previous 4 games prior to playing us was on the slide wouldn’t you?

They’d taken 1 point from 4 games including being walloped at home 4-1.

    Your original post was,

"We just don’t seem to win when the chips are down."

Wycombe would've gone 15 points clear of us, and in first place, if they'd won ...

... are you saying the chips weren't down, seriously?

We go all out from the kick off. Have a goal wrongly ruled out for off side after 3 minutes. 90 seconds later we concede from a throw-in and get battered for most of the rest of the half, with JM playing out of his skin to keep us in it. Just before the break 09 wins a dubious free kick outside the box and Lafferty volleys in the ball after it bounces off the back of Ozzies head.

We come out in the second half and keep Bristol penned into their own half but get no shots on target. We score 5 minutes into injury time as Bristol's keeper misjudges a throw out, which rebounds into the net off one of their centre backs.

Away fans go mad and one or six invade the pitch just as the whistle is blown. Cue Bristol manager shouting at 4th official saying the game should have been abandoned due to the pitch invasion. He loses it and gets sent off for man handling the official and his sacking is announced over the tannoy before he even leaves the pitch.

    If Carlsberg did SAFC matches!

    We don’t.
We lost all our big games last season as well. Wycombe were on a stinking run when we played them and have continued to tumble since.
Portsmouth and Coventry brushed us aside and we were fortunate against fleetwood.
We need to improve its that simple. If you’re happy with our form then good for you but don’t start trying to be clever just because you don’t agree with me.
We are the best fans in the game, I’ve always believed that until I started looking at these forums. Thankfully I don’t come across people like you when I’m at the match:

They'd drawn against Ipswich in the previous game and were top of the league.

We were in the bottom half.

Wycombe won two of their next three games after we beat them and they're still level with us now.

The chips were well and truly down and we hammered them.

So you have absolutely no confidence that we can beat a team that we recently beat 3-0 ....

    ... none whatsoever, dear me.

I have a spare hotel room and a few tickets if anyone needs help ...

... if you can make it get yersel down.

A big support and big win could make our season and I think we'll get both.

They hadn’t won in 4 prior to us and have gone from 1st to 8th since. What exactly would your definition of a side on the slide be if that’s not it? I mean what exactly are you arguing about? It’s clear as day they had hit the skids.
I have no confidence based on how we are playing at the minute, I’d have been full of confidence January, February time when we were playing well.
You’re coming across as a very rude man in my opinion.

Your claim was that we don't win when the chips are down ....

... the chips were down when we played Wycombe and we won.

Whatever happened after we beat them is irrelevant, they were three points clear at the top.

The chips were down when we went to Oxford and we won, or has Oxford's subsequent form obliterated that from your mind as well?

You were wrong and are twisting yourself inside out trying to avoid admitting it.

Oxford was an excellent win at a time we were playing really well.
I look at chips down games as Coventry which we bottled, Charlton play offs, Pompey checka final etc.
We are capable of beating anyone but when the pressure has been on for us to make that next step we haven’t managed it.
This is the business end of season now so w need to show we’ve got the minerals. Since dropping into this league so far we’ve shown we haven’t which is why we are in our second season at this level with our noses once again pressed at the window of the top 2.
