How on earth did we get from some boy in China eating a bat leading to the postponement of Elgin v Brechin eh!
This season will be written off ... ... It's not what people want to hear but it's the only option. If there were 3 or 4 games left we could suspend the season and play on. But some teams have a dozen games left, with the cups, which can't be squeezed in. Allowing this season to disrupt next season is foolhardy, it just means prolonging the damage. Everyone will just have to accept that this season can't be completed and plan for August. That gives everyone time to evaluate their position and bunker down as best they can. The problem is that too many clubs have spent beyond their means, relied on TV cash and only just kept the bailiffs from the door ... ... now the big white van has pulled up and two big blokes are getting out with crow bars. Clubs have endlessly gambled with their futures, but the future has just arrived and there will be casualties.
Are you saying the bindippers may have to wait even longer for a premier league title? I would imagine Neville n Carra on Sky could be fairly entertaining if this happened.
https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/390397-jurgen-klopp-message-to-supporters A pretty decent statement from Klopp there. It amazes me really that so many people are selfish and play this down or don't want to follow the rules because of how it will affect them, with no consideration or compassion for others in society.
It’s karma for Everton not being able to play in the champions league when the bin dippers were going mental.
I just took a large sheet of paper and explored each option from delaying the season to playing the games in hand then stopping. I'm sorry to say this, but voiding the season is the only one that can work. Unless this delay is until the April date that they've announced, which obviously won't be the case, there's only one possible outcome. The game is too heavily reliant and controlled by TV contracts to be able to shift this season into the space currently occupied by the following season. Add in the massive legal implications, and inevitable legal actions, and it becomes untenable. Throw in players contracts, loan signings, the transfer window, etc and shifting this season around becomes impossible. The PL/EFL have the easiest 'out' by pleading 'worldwide pandemic' and writing off the season. Their solicitors will be well aware of the legal minefield of rearranging next season to accommodate this one or playing through the summer. As far as I'm concerned this current delay is simply to deflate people, and lower their expectations, before the inevitable happens.
I can see games being played behind closed doors. That will release emergency services from the need to be there. Maybe not all the outstanding games but at least to ensure that everybody has played the same number. Whatever, we're still in the third division next season.
Not sure why games cannot be played behind closed doors. I have just played golf outdoors, That nasty piece of work Brady, who works for the Dildo twins at West Ham, wants the season cancelled....hmm methinks might this be because her team may get relegated...
Unless they stop public travel fans will still trying to get to the match if it's on Look at PSG fans the other night
It's an option but still a difficult one. Arsenal have had the virus in their camp with Arteta, and people are being told to self isolate for 14 days. Their match at Man City was postponed and that's the problem. If matches are scheduled then postponed because one person contracts the virus it would be a shambles, and one person would be enough because the whole club would have to be tested and isolated. What happens if we wait 3 weeks until the resumption date only to find that half a dozen more clubs notify cases and they need 2 more weeks? It's just not going to happen imo.
I'd rather see this season completed and the start of next season delayed, even if it meant a Jan 2021 start date. Seasons are going to be disrupted with the Qatari World Cup so just make a start on it now. And we still get the chance of Villa and West Ham going down.
Something very positive might be happening with this and might go big in the next day or two. Not getting carried away, but a drug for rheumatoid arthritis effectively halts the pneumonia in the worst affected patients in Italy and they are rolling that test out nationwide now. Haway.
Just realised this could get copy and pasted around so took out identifying details, but this comes from a good source and is very encouraging. It doesnt stop you getting infected, but it is effective at treating the pneumonia.
The only given in any of this is that you cannot extend players contracts beyond the terms they are currently contracted to. That would be tantamount to forced labour. However, it is always going to be in the EFL's hands to make a decision with overall consent of the members. There is no reason why they cannot bring the season to a close without another game being played and the league position stands and promotions/relegations take place from there. Clubs on the brink will vote to do exactly that and those who might dip out of possible promotion would be outvoted by the majority. Fans who don't agree with this will be those who haven't quite cemented their survival or promotions. The only muddied water is the revenue lost by those who cannot afford to lose it. Bigger clubs will survive that but there are many who do not get mega crowds through their turn styles and don't have a sugar daddy owner. The loss of a few hundred grand to your club is not the same as a whole load of others. The fallout will or would be interesting if the games are not played. These clubs will still have to pay wages even if no games take place for months. Harsh times I think for many.
