Not yet mate, every time help for S.E. is mentioned in Parliament, or at a news conference, Boris Johnson says that help is coming in a couple of days. He's being quoting that since last week. It's the last day of Parliament today, so it's going to be exceptionally difficult to hold the Government to account and put pressure on them. There's some mention on twitter that Sunak is going to deliver a 'huge package' tomorrow (shudder to think what that exactly means) ... hope that it will suffice - I have loads of self-employed friends in the same boat as my family - with no income whatsoever coming in it's quite a worry!.
They must be really. My wife and i are in the very lucky position that we are still working through all of this (her more hours than usual, me fewer). It would be a touch odd though if those who work full time through this and pay full taxes/NI contributions (which is way more than 20% of our earnings) whilst those who aren't working (for legitimate reasons!) or are unable to do so get 80%. You'd have to imagine that people would pay NI and income tax on the reduced gross wages of 80%. Details are thankfully going to be sorted tomorrow apparently (not before time), and hopefully people can get what they need quickly as I can only imagine how stressful that situation is. Keep safe all and let me know how you get on
I’m ok I’m oap cheers mate I’m concerned for the self employed and hope the government deal with them correctly Again taking into consideration them still working on low pay I hope all works well for everyone
I’m self employed but also have a PAYE job. Most of my singing money is reinvested back into the band (new kit etc) and I pay very little tax on it due to that. Means I get nothing from that. But, as I am still working for the NHS (14 hour days at present) I have no issues. First time in years I’ve been able to get overtime!!
Yeah my wife is basically AWOL from home at the moment, she's in the middle eleven days of straight work. Though she's pushing to actually leave within an hour of the end of her shifts at least ( usually it can be two or so hours after the end of her day before she gets out) so she can see the kids before bed.
We'll find out today what the financial help is going to be. Though Some of the reports in the news media about Self Employed financial help- is it won't become available until May! Going by the 100's of thousands of claimants in on-line queues for Universal Credit payments that wouldn't surprise me. I feel millions of people are going being left out to dry by this Government through their convoluted methods of delivery of an income to who need it most. Maybe a basic income for everyone, regardless of their financial circumstance- for 3 months would have been a wiser move, including a hiatus of not having to pay mortgage/rent/utilities etc. This situation if it continues may cause public discontent leading to riots! The stark reality of Iain Duncan Smith and the Government's inhumane agenda (austerity) against the poor, will hit home when it starts to affect 'out of work' middle income earners. How can anyone survive on 90 odd quid a week?
There you go @becs and co. If you're: Self employed Make majority of income through Self employment Have a 2019 tax return make up to 50k a year You'll qualify for 80% as with a furloughed employee Also possibly benefit improvements if needed.
Big hint there that Self Employment benefits in terms of tax will be changing. Probably a closure of Ltd company + dividends setup.
There's currently a stand off between one of my friends and the rest of us as he's complained about how his tax returns don't show his proper income and the rest of us are all just blanking his whinging. He's always seen under-declaring his income as some kind of game in the past and whilst it's clear to see the difficulty this now puts him in I'm pretty sure he is not going to get any sympathy. My uncle (a window fitter/ bricky) was a nice guy, but also seemed to see full declarations as optional. It's a shame that others (epecially manual labourers) get put in the same bracket and it's nice to think that the ones who honestly declare everything will get more if this is implemented properly. Feel free to correct me if I'm missing anything here, I've never been self employed OR filed a tax declaration!
. . . . of the average of your last 3 years net profit, I think It also seems that we won't have to do anything to initiate the process, 'cos HMRC (I presume) will contact those of us who are eligible . . . . that makes me feel better
Mine is always honest and I've declared all my income, so hopefully it should all go through and I'll get something in June.
Yeah that might be interesting for anyone whose expenses have Bill Oddie's dressing gown receipts in them please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
Not declaring your full income is something people are often quite proud of ... .... then there's that proverb, 'pride comes before a fall', Tax fraud reminds me of taking a power boat out to sea, hilariously enjoyable until you hit a submerged rock.
June! ... considering the nature of my self employment, and as from the last couple of weeks: having zero income coming in for next 3 months it's going to be very difficult time for my family.
