I've a bad feeling about this. IC not the place to be at any time, never mind now. Dominic Raab in charge
Hope he’s alright like. Never been a massive fan, but he’s gained my support from what’s been going on. Hopefully he’ll be fine and it’s more for precaution but IC is never a good sign, is it.
Zero support for the guy. Herd immunity endangered lives of many and the guy was shaking hands with coronavirus patients not so long back. Wouldn't wish ill health on anyone though, hope he's alright.
get well soon . I don't like his political views and I never will, but it goes no further than that. perhaps now he might realise they left it too late.
I don’t like how lots of people on social media have started digging at him regarding how they have handled it. Truth be said they have made mistakes. The first one was not implementing strong self isolation instructions much earlier. However this is a once in a generation event which we have no experience of so it is hard to say what was right and wrong. He is poorly and if he is in IC it means he must be pretty bad. Again people on social media seem to think he has personally done something wrong.
No wonder nobody has seen or heard about Dominic Cummings since BJ first went in to isolation. Best wishes to BJ. On a separate note why Raab and not Rishni or Patel?
I heard the stat that only 50% of people who go in to IC survive! Think BJ is a precaution rather than a necessary but Evens aren't great odds.
He should be fine - he's been moved there as a precaution (and I suspect mainly to ensure privacy). He's not been ventilated - which is where the scary 50% survival rate kicks in. Don't like the fella's politics, don't wish illness on anyone, hope he gets better. That being said, this is probably the single most effective life-saving thing he could have done. On the grounds that the actual decisions for the country are being taken by medics and scientists rather than politicians at the moment, having the PM in hospital might actually get the message across that this is something to take seriously. As one person put it: all the people wishing ill on him are sick. They should have some compassion: the man has at least three families.
Disagree mate, every government should have plans in place for eventualities like virus'. For instance, Trump's government undertook a hypothetical reaction to a virus spreading through their nation, and that's the incompetent Trump. Its just sound planning in the modern day. For Boris to fly in the face of science, go on about herd immunity and hold off on lockdown, despite the evidence of dangers attached being apparent from other countries, is a flagrant disregard for the health and safety of the public. The thing is, Boris won't be sat in an NHS hospital right now like the people he put at risk, just like he was tested instantly unlike the rest of the public (where are all those tests by the way) I don't wish death on anyone, that's just wrong, but Boris isn't suddenly above criticism because he's ill.
Winds me right up that does. He was damned if he did and damned if he didn't. There is no right or wrong answer here or way of doing things. We have never, and when I say we...we are talking about the whole ****ing world here, been in this situation before and a lot of countries are finding their feet as they go. That doesn't mean they've ****ed up, or taken too long over this that or the other. I firmly believe BoJo has done exactly the right thing at exactly the right time based on the advice he has been given. Whether that's the right advice or not remains to be seen and whether it can be proven or not is a completely different matter. The UK demographic is completely different to that of China, Italy, Spain and France etc. Our lifestyles are very different our culture is very different so what works for one will not necessarily work for another. He's given us the flexibility to be sensible about how we approach our daily lives whilst implementing hard and fast measures for businesses up and down the country. It's us that has ****ed that up not BoJo, hence we end up with a lockdown...albeit not a complete one. When people are still out sunbathing, taking their kids to the beach and mingling around in parks then it is only going to lead to a complete and full lockdown, but even then there will still be the scum of society with a "**** that, **** the government" mentality, walking around coughing on shopping and in peoples faces and fronting up to the very people who are there to protect us and get us out the other end of this. It's a shame that this virus isn't selective about who it hits and can't weed out some of these ****ing dregs from society. Get well soon Boris, hope to see you back at your desk soon.
I'm no Boris fan, but he is in an NHS hospital, and if the PM isn't a priority for testing who the **** is? Even if you think what doctors do is more important as a collective, I don't think you can name me an individual doctor who is guiding the effort more than the PM (with the exception of the CMO)
Sorry, right you are. Was on an empty wing to himself in an NHS hospital until going to intensive care. You're missing the point, my gripe isn't that Boris was tested, he should have been. My issue is front line workers still haven't received the tests they were promised a week ago (which was too late anyway) and the public aren't getting them. Other countries are testing, so why not us? Do you think the right should purely be reserved for Prime Ministers and Idris ****ing Elba?
Fair enough. Yes more testing would have been good - although we don't know why we haven't been able to do it. I suspect it's either lack of availability (not necessarily the govt's fault) or incompetence in acquiring them (very much their fault). But that's a question for after the problem: trying to assign blame now just leads to defensive behaviour and makes the problem worse. (And no - that doesn't mean don't apply pressure to do more testing now. FWIW I think Kier Starmer has it about right. Support the government, but hold them to account where they are failing)
Halfway in between. Don't like Boris on the basis that he is an unprincipled opportunist. On the other hand, these have been about the hardest decisions that a non-war time leader will have to make. He failed quite badly on testing and PPE. He has done pretty OK on ventilators and increasing NHS capacity as well as economic stimulus. In retrospect, he delayed the shutdown by a week or so too long. I am not going to say I would have acted any earlier. He has got the severity of the lockdown about right. He was an egotistical photo op twat unnecessarily and this may have resulted in him catching the virus. I wish him a speedy and full recovery, in the course of which he learns a little humility.
That would of course be the statement whether it was incompetence or lack of availability. Time will tell...
Having lost one relative to this **** already, with my wife and a number of close friends working in horrendous conditions without adequate PPE, I'll reserve the right to get dewy eyed over Boris just yet. I'll wish no harm on him as an individual, but as a government along with their advisors, many serious questions need to be posed at some point Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but, when you receive the gift of knowing what's coming your way and choose to do SFA other than pursue a policy of Herd Immunity, problems were always going to be coming our way at a higher level than what could be. Don't forget what that **** Cummings said about a few pensioners dying is acceptable. My wife has been told she will be tested, in about SIX weeks, so that's obviously being prioritised now. Im not blaming Boris as such, but, the buck stops with him.
