While I would love to have a 55,000 seater SOL and think it would look great..... we've got a couple of divisions and a few 'successful' seasons to go before we could even think about it. The current capacity is more than enough for the forseeable future. Other upgrades/updates to the stadium might be welcome but the capacity is not one of them. The fact this was on their agenda only discredits their bid even more.
Have to admit that extending the stadium wouldn't be my priority, getting the club back up to the Premier on and off the pitch would be top of my list
We rarely filled 48,000 the last 5 years in the Premier League. It would be a ridiculous waste of funds unless we were a top 10 side, which we’ve been 1 season in Premier League history. It’s the kind of thing folk come out with to appeal to certain fans and get backing, it wouldn’t benefit the club in the slightest.
Agreed. The extension to 48,000 sort of made sense, but theres no reason at all to extend again unless we become a regular top 10 PL side. I remember reading that smaller capacities were often better for attendances anyway. You get to a point where some weeks is sold out and that drives people to make sure they snap tickets up next time. When the grounds huge people know they can wait until the day and decide, and often don't bother. If he was coming in like FPP with hundreds of millions to potentially sink into it, aye, eventually we could benefit from it, but he wasn't. What we need to do is spend money on getting the right people into the club, spend on updating and improving the infrastructure, spend on the team. If we ever get back to the PL (which is likely a decade or so away anyway) and we actually start doing well, maybe we'll need to look at raising ticket prices. After all, we consistently had one of the biggest attendances in the league but our gate receipt revenue was only ever mediocre in comparison with much smaller crowds elsewhere. Once we're regularly selling out 48,000 at higher prices, then and only then do we need to start thinking about potential for expanding. You're talking so far in the future that it's not even worth discussing at this stage
Filling more of the ground, with women who roll their eyes when I bellow and scream, doesn't appeal tbh. We should reduce the size of the stadium and only have people who are desperate to be there. I'd only open the gates at the final whistle and tell people it was a health & safety issue ... ... if you really need to be in your house for 6pm don't ****ing come!
Close the extension, including to away support, put them back in the lower bowl to drive the atmosphere. Make the away fans part a permanent change, it’s been a disaster. Its had a reverse effect since we moved them upstairs, it’s quietened us down. South West Corner used to compete with away fans for voice and that spread, just like the Roker Wing and Fulwell End used to drive each other. Its been gash in there for years now.
So the two 7th place finishes under Reidy have been ruled inadmissible by the EPL? ****ers, the lot of ‘em.
Haha, I meant in the 10 year stint, almost conditioned to forget those wonderful days under Reid after the crumblings since. What I wouldn’t give for a team like that again. We were ****ing mental really, attack any ****er.
I think then two seventh finishes is gonna be as good as it's ever gonna be as far as following the lads in my lifetime.
Sadly I think so too mate. Concern is that I’ve probs therefore got 45-50 years more gut wrenching disappointment to live through.
The 2-1 at home mate ... ... had tickets but I had the boss down with his family and a big entourage. Mrs Smug said she'd be OK but I didn't want her having to handle things alone.
Where’s that from and why is Mark Campbell popping up with this now? Was it Falkirk he could not afford to buy after us and now he’s shouting about what he could have done. If I bought us I was gonna make it a 100k stadium, easy for people to say any old bollocks.
