doesn't matter if he said it or quoted someone else. He's still banging his drum that it will all be over soon, a message that other scientists have cautioned is simplistic and potentially over-optimistic (eg https://www.sciencemediacentre.org/...-tweets-about-how-we-could-exit-the-lockdown/ )

As a Professor of oncology, he's (rightly imho) concerned about delayed treatment of cancer patients at the moment. I personally think there are better ways of getting the message out that we need to find ways of treating cancer patients safely while lifting restrictions cautiously.

Amazon issued a profit warning at the start of this month, the last quarter will be the first loss making quarter for over five years, they estimate that coronavirus has cost the company $4b. Everyone just assumes that as the shops are shut, everyone will be shopping online and though third party sellers are still selling and delivering Amazon orders, Amazon themselves are running on reduced staff and have been supplying essential orders only (nappies, hand gel, etc), most of their own stock of other items was removed from sale.

I saw that, yet still the share price is up 25% ytd. Just a huge disconnect between the markets and actual economy. There is just no where to put investable cash into at the moment, so it's being pumped into this type of share.

Hmmm - things sound really desperate there - perhaps we should all have a whip round for Jeff Bezos (Amazon CEO).

The is not as much synergy between the economy and the markets as people think. There are plenty of investable options out there just a bit volatile at the moment so would be wiser to hold off unless your happy with increased risk.

Questionable. Not a big deal and no need to go into it on here.

Yes, I imagine millions of American citizens are desperate to flee their stricken country and are already making plans to get out ASAP.

I don't know enough about it to have a strong opinion.

If you had £100,000 to invest over the next month or three, and looking at a 10 year investment return, what would you split and invest it in?

You have missed the FTSE100 recovery, went from 5000 to 6000 points from 23/3/2020 to 29/4/2020, 20% gain in 6 weeks, pretty good return.

You are right mate. It’s not like me anyway but it was just getting ridiculous yesterday. We have been very careful and it’s frustrating when people don’t seem to care too. Anyway we are all good in this house and I hope everyone is ok everywhere.

Gold, Amazon etc will always be safe ( as much as safe investments can be ) long term.

When all kicked off lots of normally safe ( ish ) company's shares dropped and was a perfect time to invest if you had the capital to, they are now starting to recover! For example the Walt Disney company was at a high of over $150 a share the end of last year, bit tanked down to just under $85 a share when they had to start shutting theme parks and their films all delayed etc. Those shares are now today back up to $119 a share and will continue to rise again now their parks and operations are starting to return.
