Agreed but given it's 17 against 6 I'm beginning to wonder what criteria is being applied to arrive at a decision. 17 against 6 seems a pretty clear majority to me so why can't they make a decision? It's because there are 6 big clubs wielding their financial clout, probably trying to persuade the authorities that little clubs like Wycombe cannot afford to go up and therefore should not be in the play offs etc
For some strange reason Lincoln and Bristol Rovers want to play remaining games even though they have bugger all to play for,Rovers are £25 Million in debt yet want to play games behind closed doors to put themselves even more in debt which is utter madness. Time to hit the garden while drinking Gin and listening to rock music again it's a cracking day here in Somerset
Another lovely morning to greet us for another lookdown day have a good one in the garden and stay safe
So these options are still open at the moment for League 1, in no particular order 1. Void the season completely 2. Play the season out 3, Cancel remaining League matches and award points on an average per match achieved. Top 2 promoted plus play-offs 4. See blow Some teams issuing veiled threats of legal action if they don't get what they want Surely they can't void the whole season for League 1 without doing the same for League 2 Surely they can't force teams to play out the season; now that could result in legal action, except the teams who would take the legal action probably can't afford to Teams who would, or may suffer, as a result of 3 probably could afford legal action, basing their case on the fact that all teams agree to play in the League with pre-set rules (ie play each other twice) which can't be changed part way through the season Pretty sure, if the current league standings were different, there would be no opposition to 3. Sickening really Rotherham chairman talking sense ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rotherham chairman Tony Stewart was frustrated his division had not been as decisive as the league below. "It is ridiculous," he said. "I believe there are two options now, one is to fulfil the fixtures totally and the other is the top two will go up, and the [bottom] three will go down, and the next four from the top will be in the play-offs. "I am frustrated by the indecision - it is not just the EFL, we have got the Premier League, all the moneybags, the PFA has not been helpful whatsoever. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "It was acknowledged that the need to find innovative and creative solutions was of paramount importance as was the need for decisions to be taken quickly." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Aside from the two extremes of playing the season to a finish, and using a formula to decide league places, there is a third option on the table. (ie Option 4 above) That would involve top two Coventry and Rotherham being promoted, with the eight teams below them - Oxford, Portsmouth, Fleetwood, Peterborough, Sunderland, Wycombe, Doncaster, and Ipswich - involved in an extended play-off for the third promotion place. If there is no consensus around completing the season, the third option is a compromise that might suit all parties with those clubs with something to play for playing on, while those with nothing at stake do not. Playing the season out seems the solution that no-one could argue with if the EFL/PFA funded it However, Option 4 there is little point in funding matches that have no impact on promotion or relegation so my view is that option 4 with funding should be decided. That way nobody could complain about the financial cost, those with no interest in promotion or relegation need play and any team with a chance of auto promotion/ playoffs can continue as normal (almost). Some might argue that they had an easier run in than having to play the top teams for a normal play off place.(eg Wycombe could argue that 7 of their remaining games were against teams outside the top 10 and therefore would have had a good chance of finishing in the normal play-off places)
The problem as always & I am stating the obvious the so called big clubs are trying to call the shots the same as they try to do in the Premier League, I agree with what the Rotherham Chairman is saying, but & it's a big but would he be saying the same if his team were not second. League 2 is a complete joke how can you promote the top three & not relegate the bottom team.
Can we please open pubs again as i drank less when they were open, i need somebody to confiscate my cider, gin and Somerset 5 year old cider brandy before my liver packs up
EFL says promotion and relegation will remain across all leagues - and four teams will contest play-offs The decision to curtail in each division should require a 51 per cent majority among the clubs concerned, with League One sides in open disagreement about whether to stop or play on. Looks like the EFL are putting their foot down
They don't have many pubs over here; mainly bars or restaurants. One of the few things I miss but not being a drinker it doesn't matter too much
English Football League: Promotion and relegation to remain if seasons curtailed. Clubs will still be promoted and relegated from the three divisions of the English Football League if seasons are ended amid the coronavirus crisis. Play-offs will also be played, but with no more than four teams. The EFL has confirmed that 51% of Championship, League One and League Two clubs need to agree for the campaign in each division to be curtailed. This could pave the way for the League One season to be cancelled, with teams currently split over a resolution. Talks last week stalled after at least six clubs in the third tier, including Sunderland, Portsmouth and Ipswich Town, said they wanted to continue the season. With only 23 teams now in that division, following Bury's expulsion by the EFL, any vote is certain to be decisive either way. If the season is brought to an early conclusion, using the unweighted points-per-game system proposed by the EFL eighth-placed Wycombe Wanderers would move into the play-offs at the expense of Peterborough United - another of the sides determined to carry on playing. The new regulations still have to be voted on by all 71 EFL clubs before they can be implemented. While League One could follow League Two in being curtailed, the Championship is hoping to resume in June alongside the Premier League. Players are set to return to training on Monday but with strict protocols. ........................................................GD.. It will be interesting to see how the final vote goes, especially considering Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony's threat to sue the EFL if his side are excluded from the play-offs !!
"not being a drinker".......................I knew there was something dodgy about you Ron. I've gotten through more bottles of wine in the last 3 months that the previous 12 months. It's boredom I think or a latent tendency to being an alchy. One or the other. Her indoors says it's the latter. I tell her to mind her own business and feck off but that doesn't work either. What this shows you in football in particular is the self interest of the few and no thought for a greater good all around. League 2 have shown up a whole load in league 1 by their relatively quick decision on how to proceed. They do tend to be smaller clubs on the whole of course who have less money to do much else. Out of the 47 clubs in the two leagues, I wonder how many will go out of business if they try to complete the season. You cannot generate the income required in anyway shape or form so to do so now would ruin a number. And I would be saying the same even if my club were not due to benefit. I live with disappointment by supporting Argyle over the years so if we didn't get to league one then it would not come as a shock to me or many others down here. Just wait till the Championship start to fight it out..................
Some pubs have got round the loophole in the law by selling pints in disposable plastic containers but take away only not to be consumed in the premises
What a lot of crap are Wycombe are will get 6th place in league one what i have no problem with. But then to vote against playing so others cant take there place in play offs double standards Rant over
I don't really care much if we are in the play offs as I can't see us winning them. However, maybe there will be some TV money that would help. Peterborough chairman getting up my nose. I hope he sues and loses. Sunderland will be disappointed but at least they aren't complaining. If there is no financial incentive for Wycombe to play in the play offs, maybe they will offer Peterborough their place
Pretty straight forward choice for Wycombe. Nothing to do with preventing other teams from reaching the play offs. Can't afford to continue with no financial assistance. As far as I know the players are not being furloughed because it is a loan and we don't want to borrow (I could be wrong). We were clear at the top for a while until some key players got injured. Otherwise you wouldn't be in the playoffs anyhow
As you say Ron I have no problem with the WWFC stand point. If Peterborough want to get promoted & then relegated the following season fine by me. As you say we have had a cracking season overall, the people I feel sorry for is Bloomfield, the Beast & JJ the older players it's no way to maybe finish a football career with out finishing it. What the Posh supporter get all angry over my money would have been on Coventry Rotherham Poxford or Fleetwood to go up.
It's the feeling of entitlement that some of these people have that gets me your league 1 for a reason, Greeny has said the same more than once
For anyone who has Barry Fry connected to their club and then cry no class to somebody else is priceless. This is the sort of thing I was talking about. Feck everyone else I am only concerned with me and mine. Never mind clubs that could go out of business it's just all about us. Perfect example of little man (club) syndrome.
