Cummings is employed by the government to provide advice on strategy and tactics, who sits on the SAGE committee and is a confident of the PM and his cabinet demonstrates that he is incapable of analysing a situation and coming up with actions that are within the law or government guidelines. He shows a complete lack of wisdom in putting at serious risk the health of his parents by leaving his child who has travelled with an infected family with them. If they are the only carers available and should Cummings and his wife fail to recover then one must assume they would care for the child permanently but they may themselves be at serious risk because of Cummings' actions and may not be able to fulfil that role. In this whole affair Cummings has demonstrated a total lack of wisdom. He has flouted government guidelines, he has put his parents and the emergency services at risk, he has potentially added the spread of the virus and in all probably put at risk the lives of the people who would care for his child in the event of his demise. It is the hypocrisy though that concerns me most. People will try to defend him and will attack those who reported the matter but this man by this single action has done irreparable damage to the already fragile reputation of this incompetent government. He has to go.
Am I right in thinking Cummings is actually running the country?Because Boris clearly isn’t, the dozy clown hasn’t done a full day’s work since he left Eton.
Left Eton? Are you sure? He still has early morning cold showers, pillow fights in the dorm, raids on the tuck shop, is secretly in love with Matron, writes letters home on Sundays, enjoys parsing Latin and Greek conjunctives, doesn't like swots, or Goody-goodys, and dreams of being important one day, like his best pal Cummo (drifts off into ginger beer-induced Enid Blyton fantasy...)
Had he been tested before he went........ Has his parents shown any symptoms since his visit? I should remind people perhaps yes he may have disregarded guidelines but it wasn’t against the law. He obviously thought it was a necessary trip. There was possibly thousands if not millions that probably made a similar decision. So what made his decision so wrong?
Sorry Beddy , there is no defending this.....the rules are there for everyone to abide to. The public will see this now as a free for all and go and visit friends/ family.......why not ? It’s good enough for the government to flout their own rules. And myself and our close knit set of friends have not meet even once, we have abided by the rules.
He is a senior government advisor, in fact he is in reality the man responsible for the second and third greatest disasters to hit this country in recent years, namely the victory of Vote Leave and the victory of Boris Johnson. He was responsible for the initial “herd immunity” strategy from which the government made the first of its many U-turns during this crisis. As a senior government advisor, he surely has to follow government guidelines? As he was in close contact with Johnson before he was diagnosed with Covid-19 infection, and then developed symptoms himself, are you saying it was OK to travel nearly 250 miles to see his vulnerable parents? Remember this was at the time when the spread of the virus in this country was at its peak. The rest of us are banned from doing things as stupid and dangerous as that, and the vast majority of us comply with the guidelines. The very idea that millions of people were travelling vast distances at that time is ridiculous. Remember that this was at the same time that Scotland’s Chief Medical Officer stepped down after it was discovered she had visited her second home, so why should the same fate not befall Cummings?
He was part of the group that made the rules or guidelines so the onus was on him to comply with them. He has opened the door for every halfwit to now totally disregard any guidelines or recommendations set by this government. Do as I say not as I do is not the mantra of successful leadership.
I actually feel sorry for Cummings. He is such a lonely despised man devoid of friends such that the only people who would care for his child are his parent living 250 miles away. Perhaps his child is obnoxious as he is.
Also it was against the law Beddy .... The advice, which became law on March 26, stated: “You should not be visiting family members who do not live in your home. The only exception is if they need help, such as having shopping or medication dropped off.”
But. but, this is Dominic Cummings we are talking about. He carries an invisible shield of truth, that protects him from any criticism. Of course he can do whatever he wants, just as long as everyone else follows guidelines. Droit de seigneur, or similar.
Beddy, perhaps we should set up a Just Giving website, so that acolytes can contribute towards the fine that Dominic (blessed be his name) Cummings will undoubtedly be more than willing to pay, because of some piffling little indiscretion that, surprisingly, seems to have been overlooked by many newspapers.
To be fair, BoJo is the most Bunterish PM ever, both in terms of shape and general demeanour. Cream doughnuts, all round, everyone?
The world has gone ****ing mad. Honesty, decency and integrity are long forgotten attributes amongst the ruling classes. Never apologise, never explain the mantra of those "do as your ****ing told" type bosses now dominates this government. Well **** 'em. From now on I shall do exactly as I ****ing like and will ignore all of their "advice" and "guidelines" as they are not the law. I can't stand hypocrites, liars and bullies and this government is full of them. 2020 will go down in history as the year democracy died.
