Why do they fawn so much over him? cannot understand why they all rate him no matter how **** his teams play or do?
Mates and pals from his playing days. Pick up a few more as a “friendly” manager. What’s not to understand?
They love these failed managers on the managerial merry go round, stopping clubs from getting near the famous big 6
I wonder if he went went up to De Bruyne again said "haha he's signing for Newcastle" again? If De Bruyne wanted to be sadistically tortured he'd just buy some thumbscrews.
I've noticed Bruce gives off the impression he's on awe of the big clubs ... not a good vibe to give off imo...
They come from a neutral perspective and view the club as nothing more than a midtable crap show that has for a few years barely avoided relegation. Like, are you all deluded? We had Steve McClaren and John Carver as manager and fell into the championship a few years ago. Just because we pulled of a miracle appointment with a former champions league winner doesn't mean we are actually a decent football club in the slightest. We are possibly the worst ran team in the premier league. Rivaled by West Ham of course. Steve Bruce is doing well, he is given a squad and told "stay up" he's taken the squad and kept us up. Once we are owned by the state of Saudi Arabia I will have a different metric for measuring success. And before anyone gives me ****, I stuck around. I note this forum got very quiet when we were doing ****, only now we have a new owner coming in has the place livened up again.
Same as Rafa, they are judged on the regime they work under. Also remember like some of our fans they predicted doom and certain relegation, So to justify it they then claim they have massively over achieved. The truth is both have done a good job but miracles? It'll be interesting to look back at predictions come end of season from likes of Merson, Owen etc. Plus a few on here. Miracles and luck will be mentioned...
I expect by the end of the season we will end up in 48 points. Which is not a bad return for the squad we have. But it just goes to show that we are now currently relegation fodder. Just avoiding relegation is an achievement in itself. Bruce effectively said that himself. As for Bruce has he performed well. Hmm. He promised attacking football. We have scored More or less a goal a game and that’s only been boosted after the lockdown. Only 6 teams have conceded more than us and 5 of them consist of the bottom 5 teams. Is it a successful season. I’m not so sure.
I think for many the league only really began post-2000, probably even post-2008 is the only real marker, when City set the bar and everyone has to chase impossible standards. If the league began in 2008, then Ashley's Newcastle is all there is, hence why our markers are so very, very low. They seem intent on trying to create a new narrative, where fans should be happy they're on the same pitch as the likes of City. I'm pretty sure that's not the right way to keep the league interesting/valuable.
I think there's too much of a gap with only 4 games left, but can definitely see us dropping to 14th.
if we finish lower than 13th having spent more money than ever on a side that finished 13th I don't think the Bruce doing well or better than rafa us valid.. he's done better than I expected but the comparison stuff is short sighted.
Bit harsh to say that he got to build on the team that finished 13th when Perez was sold two weeks before Bruce arrived, and Rondon disappeared two months before he arrived. You can't really say he spent the money either as Joelinton was signed six days after Bruce was appointed. Do you honestly think Lee Charnley could have talked Ashley into spending money, agreed a deal with Hoffenheim and then agreed personal terms in six days? Charnley probably takes six days just to do a ****! Bruce has done what was asked of him and very little more - the same as Rafa. Like you, that is better than I expected him to do.
