You won't get catfish like in your picture here mate. They don't grow that big here but yes you can get decent fish in the big cities like Dory or Barramundi.

 

I love fish, and when you google Thai food, you see some lovely dishes. Everything Ginge has put up food wise, would not entice me to go to Thailand! Considering we are rich to compared to Thai's it just numbs me the poor qaulity Thai food I see on here.

 

No point in just criticising if you don't put up mate. Butter some bread or fry some chips.

I'm not sure it's even a critic of your cooking, it's more a critic in the quality of the ingredients. I got about 3 packs of fresh salmon in my freezer, that if defrosted could be knocked up in 10 minutes, and still look better than that catfish without any dressing.

 

Surely you must be rich on your state UK pension, compared to most Thai's?

 

Probably but ****ed if Im driving 4 hours to Bangkok or 6 hours to Pattaya for some decent groceries though. I mainly settle for whats available locally, we can get some decent meat cuts but it can be patchy.

 

Jeez you are proper in the wilderness by the sounds of it. Nowt wrong in that, but not sure how this Southern Softie would cope with all that.

 

Commy likes the hustle & bustle of the touristy places, lady bars etc. I did all that when I first came as a tourist way back when. I think most do, I got pissed off living in towns full of drunken tourists, it was like Blackpool but with sun.

 

Yeah, I agree with that bit, that I wouldn't want to live in the centre of a tourist area. But I'd still want a decent standard of basic living. You enjoy it and that's the main thing, not sure I could adapt to the lifestyle though. I think also as you have previously highlighted for yourself, access to medical care would be a biggy for me.

 

Thailand sounds nice, but my Mrs doesn’t have the balls to make a move like that.

 

Made an Asian style “omelette” and a few Parathas

cumin seeds, cumin powder, chilli flakes, salt and diced onions, 4 eggs...usually throw in coriander but had none

 

Medical services here are very good and you're never more than an hour or two away from a really good hospital. Local hospital here is good but limited for big stuff and operations. As for standard of life I'm happy living in the country, the housing is predomitably good, good markets. Diet is mainly pork, fish & chicken and Aussie beef when I can be arsed to drive an hour up the road to Makro.
