Much as I love him I’m getting a little annoyed with Tommy Mooney’s ridiculous optimism on hive live (another £10 well spent....). It’s basically constant but a great example tonight as Perica got sent off in the 89th minute whilst 3-1 down with nothing doing and Tommy says “the worst thing about it is it has killed the game”........Tommy - news for you the game was up just a little before that!
I will just continue listening to Three Counties while I am doing something useful and watching the lowlights on TV
Probably has to be positive on the official site stuff. Form the off they kept waffling on about the official showing a lot of cards. Well don't give him a chance to then! Even under GT we lost in these early rounds but then you knew we had the first team to come back. On Saturday Dawson and Murray could be in again. What worried most was again we didn't create anything - you won't win any games if no chances get created.
Both Murray and Garner looked worryingly poor I thought - and they are part of the new blood. Well the new, old blood in Murray’s case.
Maybe Garner will be another who looks nice but too lightweight? Murray just seems to look 37 sadly - if people think Deeney is past it then he must be!
Garner is hugely well thought of by United fans so hopefully this is just him at Newport away surrounded by second / third string players. Can only hope for improvement.
And having a very slow striker up front. Not used to playing with such strikers when at Man U! Pedro and if they stay Sarr/Suarez might enjoy his passing. This is the trouble - how can Ivic long term if he doesn't know who is coming or going. It's almost a week by week team sleection.
If we sell a lot of the players not being selected in the squads recently then we could be at best a Championship team for a long time. Patience, I know, but it really sounded shoddy today. If these are the players to be pushing for a first team place, on this showing, we are in trouble!
Not getting too depressed about this - I've seen so many inept performances in this competition over the last decade from the Horns that I've come to expect it. A pointless midweek trip to South Wales to play in an empty stadium for a trophy named after an elk or something ! Unfortunately we may as well have gone into this game carrying a big banner which said 'we don't care'. There is a feeling of Deja vu about this - many remember when we used to regularly lose at places like Newport without getting any real shots on target (like in the middle of the 70s) - but then those players then were not earning much more than us, and were actually trying ! To put things into perspective the motley collection of boys, pensioners, misfits and those who looked like they have just landed from another planet, which we put out last night, had a collective market value of 20 million ! I've heard mention of players being absent because they are looking for other clubs - well as far as I am concerned they are still being paid ridiculous sums of money by us and are, therefore, playable - and if they don't,subsequently, give 100% at places like Newport in midweek then they can bloody well walk back from there ! So - having talking my way back into being depressed again - rant over.
Nice to see that Newport get rewarded with a TV game v Newcastle. Some much needed money to boost the coffers.
I think this thread should be deleted - and all memory of this match wiped from all living consciousness
Ha - sorry! I was worried they'd miss out with Liverpool v Arsenal and Spurs v Chelsea on. Or should I say their reserves sides.
So often we struggle with poor teams in the league cup.... and produce something quite different in the league... Yesterday was a classic example.... a sparkling performance all round.....
