I'm not aware of the full facts re the explosives and arms. I heard mention at the time, but I don't know how reliable the reporting was. Even so, if it is clear the dead woman herself posed no threat, using a live round is overkill imo
She shouldn't have been there simple! As everyone knows in the US, police officers and security officers are readily armed. If you don't want to be shot at, don't break the law. That said, it was a needless death and peace be upon her soul.
Attacking anywhere that houses the President, or indeed in this country, the PM, carries a very real threat of lethal force being carried out. They should all have been aware of that. Having said that, the President would have been contained in the safe room bunker immediately. Even so, it's likely to result in people being shot. I do wonder whether there'd be so much support for the security guys on here had the protestors been democrats.
bro we've been hearing this since the days of the independence vote she lost. Change the record will ya of course your going to be right. Here's a prediction, Boris will lose his support in 100 years time
I imagine even US cops are required to use no more than reasonable force. I agree the death was needless. Only in America...
In ordinary circumstances, I would absolutely agree that tasers should be used rather than lethal force, but these were not ordinary circumstances. If she had successfully climbed the barricade, dozens of others could have followed and you can't taser multiple people at once. These people could legitimately be described as terrorists in my eyes, would you have objected to the shooting if they were Al-Qaeda?
I think it will come out that security followed their training; protect the elected officials by getting them to safety. The only persons permitted to carry weapons inside the Capitol Building is security. If that same woman had wandered into the building alone or with a small group and caused a scene, she would have been restrained and removed. The same woman appearing in front of a phalanx of agitated hotheads that broke windows and unlawfully entered the Capitol Building must be treated differently. Make no mistake, that mob was out of control and presented a clear and present danger to Members of Congress. If you are advocating the violent overthrow of the duly elected government, you have committed treason.
nope, only if there were wearing a turban and shouting alluha akhbar! It's a shame she died but invading congress with a bunch of other armed members it doesn't surprise me that security has overreacted to what they perceive as danger. I don't think it would happen in the UK as people don't go running into the house of parliament with semi automatic guns and pipe bombs but i suspect it could happen if that was ever a scenario one day.
You can't compare them with Al Qaeda. As far as I know, none of them set out to physically harm anyone. I haven't heard or seen proof that any of the protestors used any arms
You have it wrong. The outgoing Republican President was the one agitating the mob. He was never in danger and only meekly commented on the situation. For a time he refused to send the National Guard and it was only until the Vice-President sent them in that the situation resolved.
people get shot for being mouthy let alone forcing there way into their equivalent of the house of parliament with guns and bombs.
When did I say anything different? Trump absolutely encouraged and orchestrated the lenient response at the outset to guarantee that his supporters gained entry. Without a doubt, SOPs would have dictated that the President was whisked to safety long before they were anywhere near him. Once it started to get out of hand, armed security started to act. Not sure what you think I said?
Bizarre. Do you not wonder why Goldie is so outraged about the shooting of a someone attacking the seat of government, when people are shot by police for way less virtually every day in the US?
The simple fact is she was part of a group who stormed a government building, the security had no way of knowing what they were carrying and what actions they would take, they have to protect those they are employed to do so and could only be seen as a hostile force and a terrorist group, I'm just shocked there weren't further casualties.
What's bizarre? I can't speak for Goldie? He obviously feels that the shooting was an overreaction, which on a street corner it would be. Where it happened though, is not a surprise imo. Trump caused all of this and the sooner he's gone the better.
Making excuses for someone storming the Capitol isn’t the hill I’d choose to die on. After seeing what happened to her.
Something else about this that doesn't sit right at all is that this has been on the cards for weeks now, it's been on many different social media platforms and you don't get numbers like that who just turn up on the off chance, so why was the security so poor?
