City have a long-standing interest in Assombalonga – who is out of contract with Boro this summer – and they had been readying a summer contract offer. However, a move could be accelerated to this transfer window after it emerged that Boro have a liking for City striker Diedhiou. Neil Warnock is keen on landing a target-man, and with Chuba Akpom, Duncan Watmore and fit-again Ashley Fletcher, they are willing to let captain Assombalonga leave. We understand that top-level talks between Boro and City, and swap deal has been talked about, and it looks like both parties are keen. Swap could happen before deadline Senegal international Diedhiou and DR Congo ace Assombalonga have almost mirrored each other since joining their two clubs. Both moved in the summer of 2017 for big money, and both have hit around 50 goals in 150 games. Assombalonga joined Boro for £15million from Nottingham Forest, whilst City gave Angers over £5million for Diedhiou. Whilst swap deals are notoriously difficult to pull off, this is one that has a chance of happening by Monday’s transfer deadline.

This would be a good signing for us, would have been even better if we had kept Eliasson to give him the service he thrives on...
Sorry but I’m my opinion Martin is not a threat upfront, slowest forward in the championship, rarely wins a header but I agree supply is the problem

Interesting read on this is that Fammy has been told he does not have a long term future at Bristol City. What could happen if we have them both for the rest of the season?
comment does not make sense to honest told Fammy has deal on table is close to signing and can go at seasons end should that be his choice ….. City should give more thought to getting players signed before they have a year or less to run … if you are worth £5m and free makes sense to run down contract buying club has wages only [ mostly ] to find so say were going to pay £1.2m a year wages for 2 years then [ £2.4m ] then an extra £10k a week would give a profit of £4m after 2 years!... simples ….
How about this for a solution? Diedhiou signs for Middlesborough on loan until the end of the season and Assombalonga signs for us until the end of the season. Both clubs can ensure that they are comfortable with their loanees and both will still be free agents in June and can either sign properly or bugger off, win/win. I could do Ashton's job, it's a piece of piss. PS:- My two penneth is, I personally think he is better all round and is certainly far better at holding the ball up (which isn't difficult). Time for a change.
Because they are totally different types of striker. I suspect Holden wants a striker who can actually hold the ball up, to help to take pressure off of a failing midfield and Warnock probably wants to go more direct.
Holden believes he’s sorted the midfield issue out. Remember you’re talking about someone who said last week “we are entertaining to watch, and can’t wait for the weekend”. I would say hold up play is not Assombalonga, he likes balls he can run onto.
I really doubt that he believes that he has sorted the midfield out, it's just one new player, whether he sorts the issue is for another day. I never suggested that's all that Assombalonga offers, what what I was suggesting he is far stronger than Diedhiou in that regard, which is not difficult.
