Sorry the players are not capable and in his post match interview Pearson pretty much said as much to paraphrase he spoke about the next 7 matches and beyond "if there are casualties along the way so be it" but even more telling "I have younger players waiting for their chance, so I am not wasting anymore time on players who have had more than enough chances" and that is the crux of this crappy squad "PLAYERS WHO HAVE HAD MORE THAN ENOUGH CHANCES".

It's not my take, I think you need to listen to Pearson's post match interview, most normal people will be left in no doubt exactly what he was saying, the same as me and most other fans, this is a crappy squad.

Pearson set out the team with players who were in no way suited to his game plan.
Playing the ball forward early is OK providing a) it's accurate and b) players able to play in that ssystem. Not today Nige.
And someone please explain why Bakinson came on for Bell when Fammy or Watkins are our striker replacements to play in that system.
Pearson heaped praise on Massengo. Think Pearson is totally missing undoubted effort and attitude with effectiveness. Massengo is weakness personified but tbf and giving the kid a chance far better players would look poor with Lansbury alongside.
Anyone watching today could pick holes in every player today except, as usual, Kalas and Bentley.

I add Pearson to that critism today.

I sort of agree with you but suspect that there more than a little of lets once and for all show the fans how poor far too many of this squad are.

The Bakinson change for me was because we were already getting beaten up in midfield, the move did not work, we still need a leader in midfield, I don't think Watkins or Diedhiou brought on earlier would have changed this result.

As I said I don't get the playing of Lansbury his only attributes are getting booked and putting long passes straight into touch.

For my money Lansbury, Hunt are both done I would only play them in the event of an emergency. Mariappa should be replaced by Vyner, Nagy needs to play in midfield and hopefully Walsh will be back fit as well.

It will be interesting to see what happens on the player front during the remainder of what has been a somewhat typical campaign for us. I would suspect that Pearson has already identified the vast cracks in our squad and perhaps he's also googled the players available during the summer at reasonable prices and salaries and can see a way forward for a club that has always gone down the other road that has led them nowhere. This could be the most exciting off-season ever but we just need one thing to kick it in to life and that is Nigel Pearson's signature on the bottom line. Come on Steve let's get that business done and dusted please.

Again it’s your take on his interviews..
NP has a way with his interviews where you can read anything into them, but feels he has total control over every situation.. I’m not always convinced by them to be honest but I’ve been wrong before, it has been known!!
Start of next season we will know how good he is..

    Pearson pulls no punches
    Friday, April 2nd 2021

Manager Nigel Pearson sent out a strong message to the squad after a disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to Stoke City.

The Robins are unbeaten in their last four away games (W3, D1) as they now prepare for Easter Monday’s trip to Coventry City (April 5th, 3pm KO), but it’s at home where City are struggling.

The Potters ran out 2-0 winners at Ashton Gate on Good Friday through goals from Nick Powell and Steven Fletcher. The Robins lacked flair and going forward only Antoine Semenyo could force the opposition goalkeeper into one save throughout the 90 minutes.

The result means City are without a home win in their last seven league games but Pearson continues to drive forward to find a solution to the Robins’ conundrum.

“It’s a bit of a reoccurring nightmare – that’s the best way of putting it,” the City manager told Robins TV. “It’s a disappointing result but we have to do more. I would rather us fail by being more positive.

“I thought today at times we took too long, I don’t think Dan (Bentley) has had too many saves and we end up losing 2-0. It’s a very frustrating situation for us and looking forward we have to change a few things.

“I don’t like to admit it but I can’t disagree with that as a summary of today,” he added when asked if the game passed them by. “At times we were waiting for someone else to start us off and you can’t go into the game and be below par in so many areas.”

The performance of Han-Noah Massengo did catch Pearson’s eye and he was quick to highlight the positive display of the teenage midfielder.

“If we had a few more Han-Noah’s out there, in terms of a desire to make things happen, we’d be a lot better. I don’t normally do this but he represents what I look for in players. They get a chance in the side and they do everything they can, not just to secure their place but to improve as well so he’s a really good example of that. In another difficult afternoon he was a real bright spark.

City now have seven matches remaining of the 2020/21 Sky Bet Championship season, starting with the away fixture against Coventry City, and Pearson has sent a strong message to his squad.

He said: “I’m not a big believer in hitting people for the sake of it, it’s about finding solutions, finding the answers and if there are casualties along the way then so be it. I don’t worry too much about that, we’re at a point in the season where I find out who’s here for the long run. I don’t want to continue persevering with people who have had plenty of chances. We have young players waiting in the wings and I won’t be afraid to use them.”

One of those players was striker Sam Bell, as the Academy graduate earned his first start in City colours. However, he was substituted after taking a knock in the 14th minute – now confirmed as a hamstring injury - and Pearson was frustrated with another injury in the camp.

He said: “He’s done so well in training, he’s looked really explosive and I can’t give an answer as to why we’ve picked up so many injuries. We’re certainly not robust enough and we have to work on that moving forward, so it’s another challenge but we’ll deal with it.”

City take on the Sky Blues at St Andrew’s Stadium on Monday, live on Robins TV with supporters able to tune into the matchday show at 2.30pm.

“We need to respond from this but it’s complexing how we can fail to perform at our own stadium, a great place and it’s a difficult question to answer at the moment.

“I think the longer the situation goes on the more we talk about it and maybe it’s more a collective anxiety of being able to deal with disappointment when it happens. That’s something which is not straight forward to put right but my way of looking at it is working to find the solutions.”

Quite an expected interview, nothing too much that we haven’t heard before.. At least he sees the quality of one player that most on here haven’t rated from the start!!
But as said before, we do need a few quality fresh faces to extract the best of who we keep..

Because of the hype around his signature we forget how young he is and compare him to players 3/4 years older , like most young players he is inconsistent, yesterday he was by far our best player, give him time.

What else is there to take from these 2 extracts from Pearson's post match interview?, please explain how else is anybody supposed to interpret them?

“If we had a few more Han-Noah’s out there, in terms of a desire to make things happen, we’d be a lot better. I don’t normally do this but he represents what I look for in players".

    From yesterdays starting 11.

Bentley, Kalas, Bell and Wells keep.

Hunt, Mariappa, Lansbury and Rowe should be let go.

Massengo, Semenyo and Palmer are players that need to be seen with a proper midfield organiser/leader.

And from the bench Sessegnon, Watkins and Diedhiou can leave as well.

Massengo looked decent solely through endeavour and that others were poor. I question Pearson's selection, substitutions and set up yesterday which didn't help Massengo or the team.
As for Massengo, he played one decent ball through and effort unmatched but overall quality ........? I hope Ashton's correct that he will improve, time is certainly on his side.
Kalas was our best player again and comparable with any of the best CHs I've seen at AG.

The only option he had was Vyner in midfield instead of Lansbury or Nagy who had had a busy week playing and travelling. Walsh was definitely a big miss.

As for the subs I actually got the Bakinson on for the injured Bell, we were already getting beaten up in midfield big style, it was to bolster that area, sadly Bakinson IMHO is too laid back for his own good, not the finished article and it never worked, we have sadly exhausted our piss weak box of midfielders and that is where virtually all our problems stem from, they do not offer protection to the defence and they do not support the attackers on far too many occasions. We could have brought on a striker instead, I don't think that it would have made a jot of difference to the scoreline, that midfield yesterday was never going to supply our strikers, even if we were still playing now, the midfield was totally disorganised and lacking leaders, unfit for purpose as it has been for the past 2 seasons at least.

Or because he has the potential to make us a bit of money and that would mean his signing was a success.
I asked Dave Fevs for a stats on how many times HNM gets fouled, and was surprised that he was one of the highest in the championship.

The kid has been badly handled from day one, mercilessly kept in a failing team by both LJ and Holden.

Bakinson is a worry, he needs a bomb up is rear, waiting to see him actually win a tackle or sprint for a ball, just too laid back for me!

Well funny even under those circumstances, some of us could see the potential and didn't just write him off!!

I agree...my take on him, technically he's a good player, just a bit lazy and slow IMO......but he's young enough to learn..
