I disagree. This is what UEFA thought would happen with the ‘Nations Leagues’. Nobody watches it, glorified friendlies. That’s what this is, with a closed league it’s glorified friendlies. Fans won’t attend as the costs be massive, atmosphere will suffer and you end up with a flacid product. I have no interest in watching the same teams on a loop, especially as some of the teams aren’t exactly blockbuster draws anyway. You know, this stinks of Barca and Real, riddled with debt. Also would explain United and Spurs.
You cant have 6 teams playing in the premier league qualifying for this super league even if they finish 20th. How would Leicester, Everton etc qualify for it? What's the point. Boot them out of the league.
A couple of years ago (pre-Covid obviously), I went to a Slavia Sofia game with some mates. We landed at Sofia Airport, made our way to our hotel, dropped the bags. Time for a beer before heading to the game. Couple of beers later, we jumped on the tram that would take us to Slavia Stadium, which is some way from the city centre. About half way along the journey we start to notice that there are no fans knocking about. ****! Are we on the wrong tram? We try to ask the old lady sitting opposite us if this is the right tram for Slavia but she just glares at the three beery-smelling Englishmen shouting rubbish at her. Eventually its our stop and we see the ground. But still no fans. Odd. Walk to the ground, its all closed up. ****! Usual arguments blaming each other for getting the dates wrong. Check phones, Slavia website. Nope, we've got the right date and time. Walk round the ground for about half an hour trying to work out whats going on. Eventually, I march into the main entrance and demand to know when the game will start. Bemused looking Bulgarian man on the desk says "20 minutes. But game has been moved to Vasil Levski Stadium". ****, ****, ****. The Vasil Levski, the national stadium, is on the other side of town. After 10 minutes arguing and running around aimlessly, we find a taxi. We jump in and yell at the driver to get us to the Vasil Levski and quick, we're missing the Slavia game. He puts his foot down but there are lots of traffic lights in Sofia. Will there be a big crowd we ask. Is that why its been moved to the Vasil Levski? No, he says, game has been moved because floodlights are out at the Slavia Stadium. No big crowds in Bulgarian football- 10 years ago, Slavia would get 15-20k every game but now, no. He said that big corruption scandals and Ludogorets basically cornering the league title had virtually wiped crowds out. This miracle worker eventually got us to the Vasil Levski Stadium 5 minutes after kick off. We got inside and there were perhaps 200 people in a 50,000 seater stadium. To cut a long story short. Bulgaria ****ed up their league, made it really predictable, and everyone lost interest. There's a moral in there somewhere.
They've "announced" it and launched the website, whatever that actually means. Most of the clubs have resigned from ECA (European Club Association) and many of their Chief Execs have stepped down from whatever UEFA roles they had So, nowt has actually happened yet, but it's a clear intention from the greedy kernts that they want to go ahead. We're all waiting from a response from UEFA/EPL now....
I said years ago I would be more than happy for the premier league to implode never mind the super league.
I hate everyone of those six English teams, hope they go and eventually get fcuked off at the high port. Bunch of cnuts.
Look at this season in the Prem. West Ham and Leicester are in with a chance of top 4 and qualification for Champions League but wouldn't be allowed to under a closed shop super league but say Spurs and Arsenal in 10th or whatever would have a place. Total bollocks that like. Really good to see the fans of those clubs come out against it and no surprise to read the driving force behind it is the Yanks at Liverpool, Arsenal and Man U. ****ers want a guaranteed income stream to line their own pockets further, got nowt to do with what benefits the game of football. Glazers have taken near on 100million out of Man Utd and just want more. Tell them to **** right off, be overwhelming support throughout the football world to kick them out of domestic competitions.
My pal does them soccer school things they were at Spurs this morning, that’s what he’s told me. United now left ECA so not sure what that means for them in Europa this season.
I’d love to hear some players or managers have some balls and come out and condemn this mind. Likely be Rashford, the only lad with balls in the league seemingly.
I'd guess the rights have already been sorted. Can't see how they'd go this far down the line without discussions over that taking place.
As of this moment I would love to see any club refuse to play their fixtures against the 'big 6'. Particularly clubs like West Ham & Leicester. I mean why should they bother playing them. They could beat the 7-0 but it will make no difference because they would be leap frogged into Europe.
Would like to see 6 kicked out, bottom 3 from prem, championship, league1 & 2 still relegated and 9 from each league promoted, this would refresh football totally not having the predictable few in the premiership dictating. Although I Don't like being where we are it has been refreshing watching games with evenly matched teams slugging it out, I've started shouting at the TV again, moaning at the officials, questioning the selections, enjoyed the highs, feeling desperate with the lows, basically have found my mojo and a big shake up like this would do the world of good for the game. tin hat time.
