Does anyone have anything positive to say about this? I haven't heard a single fan, Spurs or otherwise, that wants it to happen.
And here's the issue with that argument: Sky, BT, the BBC etc have spent decades conditioning audiences that these are the teams everyone wants to watch And Spurs...
There's likely to be plenty in Asia and elsewhere outside Europe....and if the 'splitters' get chucked out of the PL, Leicester become a PL super club. It might go down a bomb there...and Leeds.
This explains further the Sky sports strong anti stance. So right. Levy only drags Tottenham in to this cluster by the skin of its new stadium shaped teeth. From a business perspective, I get it. If clubs are going to be left behind financially, Levy doesn't want Spurs to be in with the losing bunch. Makes sense on that level, especially when he's been fighting as hard as he has to keep up with the Jones's over all of these years of 'development'. I personally don't want to see this happen, but I would be curious to see who Sky would fawn over without their beloved Man Utd, Liverpool and the "money teams" in their broadcast pool.
There's a certain irony in this: for years Sky have accepted Chelsea and The Sheikh Mansour Team onto their top table not because of what they've done but because capitalism, and then capitalism sees their beloved clubs (plus Spurs...) abandon them because somebody is so much better at capitalism than Uncle Rupert is
I think this move would challenge the very idea of PL super club. The PL would become like the current Championship. The best PL players would be 'drafted' into the big six teams much more readily than they are now because, income. PL TV deals would be worth much less.
From experience, I can say that Japanese audiences tend to watch the Bundesliga due to the amount of Japanese players who play in that league - so the fact that no Bundesliga club has been invited means they're not going to be as affected in that market
You're right....but the broadcasters wouldn't be able to avoid the hype....and if you're winning the 'devalued, not quite as Premier as it used to be, League', will the fans care in 5 years time? Business as usual.
Bundesliga clubs are largely owned by the fans, so they'd shoot it down. Lawnballsports and Hoffenheim being the exceptions, which is one of the reasons that they're hated in Germany.
As opposed to why Bayern are hated in Germany, which is mainly because the other clubs would appreciate receiving a transfer fee for their best players once in a while
The plan is for 15 permanent members. Currently we have 12 splitters. I've no idea what they're thinking but those places have to be for BM, PSG and Dortmund. If it flies they're in it or they're nothing....financial blackmail in action. This really is ****.
Dortmund and Leipzig immediately confirmed that they want nothing to do with it. Bayern have since said that they agree completely with Dortmund's stance. It seems dead in the water in Germany, unless they're going to try something really weird.
What people need to remember is how the Premier League as we know it came into existence ITV made a bid to show matches on terrestrial TV, only for Alan Sugar to get on the phone to Uncle Rupert and tell him to blow ITV's offer out of the water - and by complete coincidence, Sugar would also profit as Amstrad produced satellite dishes The good news for us is just how much of that money Sugar funneled into Spurs over the next decade...
The compromise is going to be something like a 36 club Champions League where the top 16 qualify for the following season and the other 20 qualify in the current way. It will be played as a Swiss tournament with 14 games before the top 16 go into a knockout. In the first season it will include the top 16 UEFA coefficient clubs plus 20 qualifiers. Everyone gets what they want.
Been thinking about this in the last 24 hours I’ve been advised to go and support a ‘local’ team which I guess translates to some dogshit team in the lower leagues...if I don’t then I’m not a ‘proper fan’ for me a proper fan is one who is ready to die for the badge...I have to go where my team goes...if it’s the end of things..then so be it...but I go where the badge goes. If there is an issue with it hen it’s another thing on Levy and hopefully the small % that still love him will wake up a bit now. COYS
Good on him. It'll be better to see if any player from any of the current 12 speak out though. Herrera being a PSG player is different as PSG have so far refused ESL entry. C'mon, Harry Kane, stick it to the club and those of the ESL.
