I only just realised that the proposal is for an additional competition and they still expect to play in their respective leagues and any euro cup competitions they qualify for, some irony when they are already complaining of playing too many games in a season. I guess it opens up the possibility of playing weakened teams when it suits them. Like Alan Shearer I would hoy the ****s out today, you're out so bugger off and don't come back.
This is merely the next step in the evolution of greed. The champions league grew to adopt a group stage to appease the big clubs and guarantee them a big pay day year on year. Now it’s no longer enough for them that the likes of Manchester Hunter and Leicester can upset the apple cart and oh should one of the greedy few miss out. Elite football will be franchised sooner or later so let them get on with it and go and get ****ed now. Football will return to being a proper sport for proper fans and all the namby pamby ****ers and everything that ruins the game can **** off to the European super league with them.
It's a nonsense given the constant whinging about fixture congestion, and presumably part of their bung/sweetner from JP Morgan is to bolster the squad and coaching/management teams so that Team A plays in the ESL, Team B/U23s plays in the PL, U23s/18s play in the Cup competitions? Lets face it, the ESL matches wouldn't be played very often at either team's grounds, the plan would be to whore them out around the globe to play in front of the Franchise FC fans with the money.
Don't think those clubs will alienate their fans, halve the crowds and **** the clubs up the way ours did when they didn't get their way though. Have been pleasantly surprised by the vehemence to the idea shown by fans of the clubs involved, not just here but in other countries as well.
That's about it, it's not long since there was talk of reducing the size of the Premier League, may as well **** them of now and re boot the game.
Lifted from the Guardians live reporting of this. It has been the lead story on their web front page for nigh on twenty four hours. The Premier League rule that would give the “Other 14” the greatest chance to prevent the ESL breakaway would appear to be Rule L9. Here it is: “Except with the prior written approval of the board, during the season a club shall not enter or play its senior men’s first team in any competition other than: L.9.1 - The UEFA Champions LeagueL. 9.2 - The UEFA Europa LeagueL. 9.3 - The FA CupL. 9.4 - The FA Community ShieldL. 9.5 - The Football League Cup orL. 9.6 - Competitions sanctioned by the County Association of which it is a member.” As you can see, “Lucrative European Super League” is not on that list.T
Just watched GN and JC on MNF football.... had to smile when GN said that the Glaziers wouldn't even shell out to paint the steel beams in the stadium..
Im not saying that they should listen to be told what to do, what I am saying is that they shouldn’t claim ignorance that people won’t like the idea.
I believe the owners of the six have brought the game into disrepute. This makes them unfit to be owners and they should be told to sell up and p×ss off.
The Chair of the OSC was invited to join 200 other supporters in a zoom call with Sir Keir Starmer to discuss the ESL. It was described as an informative and interesting meeting.
