I was expecting to put horses up at Wolves or Chelmsford, but as always I have gone through the races in order. Jumps first, then flat turf and then the all weather. I stopped at Sandown, two that caught my eye 5.55 - Pied Piper - Hopefully Frankie gets a nice tune out of him (sorry). This is one about the ground, in this race he is the one with proven soft ground form and it is pretty strong form. He now gets blinkers on, which is a positive angle for John Gosden (14%) with a return on investment of 42% since 1997. Interestingly he has a better strike rate since 2016 with headgear first time horses and is 3 from 9 this year. 7.55 - Born To Please - She is exposed but today should suit her well. She is 3 from 10 on soft ground in turf flat races, with a further 3 places. She has been in decent enough form at her level over hurdles and returns to the flat in a race that should suit her better than the rest of this field (Urban Violet apart). She is the outsider of the field and I don't think she will finish behind all of these! A each way bet.
Lingfield 1.00 Princess Siyouni Earned minor prize money in 4 of 5 starts in 2020 and her two visits to Lingfield were not to bad with a 3rd place and a 4th over cd. On a career-low mark now and Franny Norton knows the horse. Stable amongst the winners recently. Worth a small each way bet to start the racing day on a high hopefully ;-)
Market Rasen 1.45 Fort D'ocean Course form reads 22. Is back on a workable mark and stable amongst the winners recently. Mayor Snugfit is the other one I like in this race. Its one of the horses I have backed more than one time in the past. With a recent run on the flat under his belt and blinkers back on I suggest he could be difficult to catch from the front.
Das Kapital 100 lingfield , conditions, distance and jockey all point to a punt for me , stable struck with the same rider yesterday , 9/1 , oh , the name is after marxs seminal critique of the capitalist system ....
The 6.25 Sandown is a shockingly small field for a Handicap. Just four runners in the contest. I am going against the grain and doing the rank outsider. Siskany is the most tipped of the quartet and is going for a hat trick but the odds reflect his chance and probably a bit more. He is joint fav with Great Gadian from the Varian yard and David Elsworth's Something Enticing is the second most tipped runner. I thought Stoute's Possible Man was worth a poke. He carried 7 lbs more than the winner when second last time and he is the highest of these on ratings. Obviously he carries more weight than the others but a feature of his form is marked improvement from race to race, I feel he can come forward and deny his mark. Small fields often throw up odd results and at 9/1 I felt he was overpriced, 6.25 Sandown Possible Man 9/1
I have Something Enticing 3/1, that may mean Possible Man has one less horse to worry about. Good luck.
Lord Huntingdon said putting a racemare into foal was the equivalent of giving the horse a stimulant: he should know. Well today in the 1910 at Chelmsford the 4yo filly Punting has returned to training after being put in foal to Without Parole. Well a friend of a friend of mine met a bloke down the pub and he said she's been slaying them at home. Surely some EW interest at 12-1?
Short-priced fav Authorised Speed the one to take out of the bumper at Market Rasen today. Got badly hampered at the 2F pole (almost stopped in his tracks) but picked up remarkably well thereafter to finish within 3 lengths of Grozni. The Authorized gelding looks sure to make amends next time out.
Disappointed with Possible Man, he was backed at one stage but drifted back out. Held every chance but couldn't quicken and then weakened in 4th. Siskany went off fav and won readily, he will probably be thumped by the Handicapper for this. Nothing else really got into the race and Possible Man looked the only danger before he paid for trying to go with the winner and the other pair came past him late to fill the places after the fav had long flown. Not much lost at 9/1.
Just seen the time for Possible Man's race. It was more than 14 seconds slow. That seems more like heavy than soft to me and pretty testing I would imagine. It was Good To Firm last time the horse ran so perhaps he might be worth another chance on a faster surface.
