This comment from DD made me laugh, to be fair this was early on in the window when we were selling but not buying. Well I won't be buying any new £60 shirts or buying bonds in the near future. We sold everyone at the club who can score and last season the goals from Murphy and Maddisson kept us up. I don't like Farke and his style of play is painful to watch. If we let Godfrey and Lewis go too we may as well give up now. This Norwich city doesn't resemble anything that I know or love anymore and even if we raise £50m by selling our only talent the funds will just be used to pay for the mistakes of the last few seasons. Out of all the players Webber signed the only 2 good enough for this league are Trybull and Hanley ,If a decent offer comes in we will sell them too. I would much rather play the likes of Cantwell Godfrey Abrahams and the under 23 squad than sell them and buy even more Bundesliga mediocre crap. The club has zero ambition and the fans are not getting value for money with one of the highest ticket prices in the division. Clearly not a Webber / DF fan at the time. I nearly fell of my chair when I saw DD's comments in relation to us signing Pukki In that YouTube clip most are tap ins from a few yards. 28 and free but I don't think he and Sir Benny are going to frighten many teams. I live in hope though.
I can’t see this happening, Ekkelenkamp is very highly rated there I imagine he will be one they look to bring through this season similar to Gravenberch. They bring so many talented youngsters through that academy. Also not a position I can see is recruiting for.
That looks familiar but can you post the link ? At the time after selling Maddison and the Murphy twins it looked pretty bleak and I was correct about Cantwell and Godfrey being 2 potential big players and Srbeny not scaring too many defences . If anyone thought Pukki signing on a free would turn out to be that good then you can pick my lotto numbers. Farke in his first season either had 0-0 or 1-0 results the entire season it was horrible to watch and as it turned out all our Bundesliga players have been released or frozen out due to their mediocrity. I stand by my assessment at the time , I'm guessing July 2018 after a disappointing lower mid table finish with few highlights other than Maddison Hanley and Jacob Murphy
Even if we "can't expect to replace [Skipp] with something equal, let alone better" (which I accept), my point was that, if we are seriously intent on survival, which it appears we are, we -- quote -- "can't afford anything less than a high level of proficiency in the Skipp role, especially if we aren't going to further upgrade the back line." To suggest that Sørensen might be capable of achieving the necessary level (my emphasis) next season is too much of a stretch for my credulity. That doesn't mean he couldn't come in and make some sort of fist of it, "cope", as CC might put it. The point is, however, that, given the avowed aim, "making some sort of fist of it" / "coping" will not be enough. Michael Bailey's reference to a DM remaining on the club shopping list suggests that DF is of that opinion too.
We are about to sign a young lad, Gibb, from tractor land. This is likely to cost somewhere in the region of £500,000 and the fans, mostly, are ecstatic with this sum as it will pay for new players. Oh how the mighty have fallen.
https://ftp.not606.com/threads/transfers-rumours-goss-summer-2018.361115/page-25#post-11842653 This was a similar one you posted https://ftp.not606.com/threads/transfers-rumours-goss-summer-2018.361115/page-22#post-11830179 Where you said we wouldn't buy as decent as Pritchard, Jerome or Jacob. As I said in my original post the comments were made in Webber's selling phase of the window, before we started buying the likes of Pukki & Buendia. You were certainly right about SirBeny, but maybe a little wide of the mark with Pukki and the clubs ambition. Over the last few years I think we've all learnt with Webber to keep our powder dry and judge things at the end of the window rather than the start. Looks like we've moved on from 2nd / 3rd tier Germans to the French 1st tier. As I said it just made me laugh. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
That's not really a fair comment. the truth is they served their purpose of helping to get us from where we were then to where we are now. Just because they can't stay with us now, because their development can't keep up with the clubs, doesn't mean they weren't a good buy. Vrancic & Steiperman certainly played a role in driving the club forward. Zimmermann & Rupp may well still have a role to play.
I was concerned that we would fill the entire side with crappy cheap Germans and continentals, the academy has since been massively improved and we have more homegrown British based players than cheap continentals now . It's nice to see some of our youth come through . If they are good enough like Buendia and Gianoulis then fantastic but apart from Hernandez and Zimmermann who are on the fringes of the first team we have signed and released tons of players signed from Germany and Europe. Moritz Leitner, Dennis Srbeny, Marcel Franke, Mario Vrancic, Tom Trybull, Marco Stiepermann, Drmic, Fahrmann, Wildschut , Duda, Rupp, Passlack and Heise . Our squad and signings now reflect our position and we aren't reliant on cheap misfits so much . Gibson Gunn and the young Kosovan lad are quality additions. What was apparent in 2018 can very much change 3 years later .
Translated tweet: "Norwich City is in the market for Jurgen #Ekkelenkamp. He does not want to extend his expiring contract (summer 2022) and wants to leave #Ajax. #NCFC were previously interested in a possible rental, as was #FCTwente. Ajax will reportedly cooperate with a #transfer." Played 3 times as a CM for Ajax, but has also played once as an AM and once as a DM with 14 sub appearances. Valued at £2.9m by Transfermarkt, but in the final year of his contract. Probably around £5m, which seems a biggish chunk of our budget if it happens.
Bit of a random one, Andros Townsend has been playing a game of "guess who" with revealing his next club. https://talksport.com/football/9120...ownsend-future/amp/?__twitter_impression=true Premier League, north of Watford, non-British manager, don't play in red. Apparently likely to know by the end of the week after being given a "take it or leave it" offer. By my reckoning, that's us, Leeds, Everton or Wolves who fit the description. 29, established Premier League operator, although previously on high wages. Would be a good addition to our squad in an area where it wouldn't hurt. Feels like it makes some sense, as does a "take it or leave it" offer from, say, Webber?
Sorry what I meant was not clear: I think he sounds too similar to PLM, so reasonable that we might have made enquiries for a loan, but with the PLM deal it feels like we probably have moved on - ie the news is old simply because the PLM story has overtaken it. I could be wrong, but I feel we are about as well stocked in the attacking midfield position now as we could hope to be. Unless Cantwell leaves of course.
That was amusing even if it isn't us. Palace paid £14.4m for him 5 years back and his present TM valuation is £6.3m so it could make sense on a free transfer if wages can be agreed. Everton could see him as a Josh King replacement, but don't know about Leeds or Wolves.
Rumour has it that Hugill could go out on loan. If this is so then as I see it (but I stand corrected) we would have Pukki and Idah left as strikers. I don’t recall seeing any transfer rumours concerning a striker. Would these two be enough in the PL?
Could also be Celtic. (I've actually seen him linked to the Hoops by at least one gossip site.) I know there's talk about us switching to a more counter-attacking style, but this would be ridiculous.
