I must have been seeing things about the loan that I mentioned...

"Probably not at this stage," said Johnson, when asked if Hawkes could be a potential replacement for Aiden McGeady as the former Republic of Ireland man recovers from a foot injury.

"But I think Josh has some great qualities and his end product is right up there if we are doing a crossing and finishing session.

"I had a good chat with him about ten days ago, talking about the summer.

"He hasn't quite got that physical maturation yet that you need at the senior level to start - I'm not saying he couldn't from the bench - but to start and dominate an opponent technically, which he can, and tactically, where we have a bit of work to do with him, but physically is the key for him.

"If we can fast-track that physical maturation with him, with the right food, the right sports science programme, then in the summer he will come in with a clean slate along with everyone else knowing that he has a man's frame now.

"I think that prospect is quite exciting with somebody like Josh because we know he has got that ability to turn a game on its head."

I could almost understand and forgive it if it was an informed opinion but with the vast majority doing it it’s from a position of total ignorance as they know nowt about the lad beyond what’s on his wiki page.

Just checked with a mate of mine who's an Ipswich fan. It's not been disclosed, but reports were their opening bid was 400k, a second bid, thought to be 500k also rejected. He thinks it's reasonable to assume between 550k to 750k.

There will be more incomings at Ipswich. They should be a worry.

Ipswich and Wigan were shyte last season, they had to so something pretty big this window. I didnt expect this much activity from either of them though.
They are both showing their intent on getting out of this cess pit of a league and i cant fault them. I wish we would show some ambition now and make a signing or 4 that makes the rest of the league look up and take notice.

I remember reading that from Johnson and scratching my head. If you look at pictures of Hawkes he looks no smaller than Scowen or Leadbitter. He played numerouse games for Hartlepools first team aswell, so he's used of playing against grown men.
Heres a couple of pics of him from a few years ago so bare in mind the fact he'll have put even more size on since these pics. The one with Catts is from about 4 years ago. He looks more than capable of holding his own to me, Johnson makes him sound like a kid. I wonder if he makes the Man city lad bulk up before playing him if he signs :emoticon-0112-wonde.

I am an LJ supporter,.......but......he must realise that this coming season is a defining one for him. So far we have lost our top scorer and some regular 1st team players (of varying quality) they have been replaced with 2 freebies who....if reports are to believed are injury prone. Strikes me, with 3 weeks to go before we start against a team who are showing their intent of getting out of this league with signings, we are much weaker than we were last game of last season.....we need to make a move and improve this squad...not buy for the sake of buying, but bring a few in that will make a huge difference

Getting the better quality of player is obviously taking longer to conclude. I'm sure we could have lowered our sights and bought the type of player we've been buying since we were relegated much faster.

I think we’ve established nobody has any experience in managing professional football teams :D

so let’s wait for the people that do to finish what they’re doing.

Mate ,what had Jordan Pickford done ,he was snapped up before we had a chance to enjoy his skills, the academy is there to bring future players on, i am happy that Embeldon had a belter with his loan and i am thankful he stayed with us instead of going to the championship with them, where he was wanted, i am sick of losing our talented youngsters, look at last season we had 2 or was it 3 get snatched and Manu was one destination.

None whatsoever mate but i've got faith the club know what they are doing. We've got to give the new ownership time. Already folk are questioning KLD over on the rtg.

no worries but you also know that BB hasn't got any. I think we as fans are sick of empty promises (I'm not saying its the case this time) but you cant blame us as fans for having reservations. Posters on RTG are listening to madbob who is going around telling everyone KLD wont be spending money, its sustainability first. Now I don't understand how we can become sustainable without spending it, maybe that's just me though. We have a lot of work to do with this squad as it stands and the season is fast approaching. Hopefully holding out for the better players is true, but again no one really knows
Plus Billy was only suggesting that Johnson talks ****e, he doesn't need to be a Prime Minister to know Boris does too :emoticon-0105-wink:.

I remember pulling kildare up about him, "being a spoilt child" . How the **** could he possibly know him, but his reasoning was that anyone who fell into parents money was a spoilt child apparently

If anything Dreyfus seems to firmly disprove that theory. He wouldn't have to work a day in his life if he didn't want to and he seems very serious about the responsibility of owning a football club.

  20. I agree. You can only have sustainability if there's something there to sustain. Sustainability in an environment of continued lack of success inevitabably will be achieved by cutting costs still further, which then perpetuates the lack of success. A vicious cycle.
We need to have a platform from which to build, which will require some spending to achieve.
Madbob isn't privy to the inner thought processes of the club,he merely tries to inform by putting a spin on what he sees, supported by the chinese whispers he gets. If we're not lashing money all over the place,it's not a bad shout to say we won't be spending.
My own view is that we are being very, very cautious with our recruitment.....that's not to say we won't be spending some before the window end. I believe the Board is placing a lot of trust in Johnson for this next season, which I hope and pray is not misplaced.
