I get that and we’d all prefer better players but why have we left it to the very last minute. Literally every transfer window we say the same thing ‘we better not leave things to the last minute and get our business done early’. Why is this year so different?
Is this a recent development to prompt these slightly downbeat posts? I look at players that have moved in the league recently and the only ones I can imagine that we would have been in for are perhaps Adelakun, Edmondson and, in particular, Coulson.
This is the issue with us all using this one thread to discuss everything transfer related. A few pages back Wheatsheaf posted that we had missed out on a lot of targets and were working through the lists. It was just disappointing for me to hear from somebody I trust that we are being forced to be patient due to missing out, rather than choosing to be patient on our top targets
I go to training, get absolutely soaked, then come back to doom and gloom. I am not going to get worked up about this at all. It is vital we dont panic and stick to the lists. They will have players on them that fit the profile of how we want to play. We must stay true to that. It wont be like our first choice is Cafu and our third choice is Hall. There wont be a huge difference between players in reality on a league 1 list. I am also fed up of players who dont want to be part of something. If we lose Wyke to Wigan, or anybody else, for a wage packet I wont lose sleep. We will be paying proper wages, like O'Nien, for the players with the best fit. I still am not seeing loads of players signing in L1 that makes me think something is up. I want players that think football glory first and wages second. That is how we will progress properly.
Aye, I meant more what I perceived to be a change in tone from Wheatsheaf’s postings. It felt like some recent development(s) may have prompted it such as a target joining a rival.
Thanks to both you and Prehab for the information. Whilst nobody expects us to go mad with salaries and fees the message is alarming. Really hope that the new regime can provide a squad capable of getting promoted but we look miles away at the minute ten days before the season starts. Problem is that we could be in this position again in 12 months. If we are then the renewals will be off a cliff and we really will be in financial trouble. Very worrying.
Clubs will probably have the better players tied to contracts or should I say longer contracts making it more difficult to negotiate deals , we are going to have to be patient . Their is nothing to stop us revisiting the top of the list if we have to should we not be able to broker a suitable deal and have to up the ante to get the players we want . We should not close our minds to players further down the list , the players on the list are on their for a reason if they were not suitable they would not be under consideration. The Euros has delayed the return of a lot of Premier league players as well as fringe players who may be available for loan and could prove to be valuable additions to our squad - as said previously the window ends the end of August not at the start of the season . The season is a forty six game marathon not that a good start to the season would not be beneficial but is not absolutely essential .
He is a scouser mate. Went to school with my brother in law. Said he wasn't even the best footballer in his year when he got picked up but was massive for his age and fast.
