Afternoon all, hope we are all keeping well and enjoying a good start to the season.

Probably more one for the Irish Rs, but for the sports fan uninterested in stodgy Chelsea v Arse the Irish hurling final is on sky this afternoon.

I’ve just spent two weeks in Cork with my wife’s family and the place has gone mad for this; I think it’s been 15 years since they won. My missus has the kids decked out in Red but they are still attuned to cheering for blue and white so don’t really understand the difference.

In my opinion it’s a much better watch than the Gaelic football if you want to take a look.

Is this the sport where they slide big lumps of metal down an ice rink and have to land in the bullseye ?

Hurling is the fastest field/ball game in the world. It is not for the faint-hearted, great watch and great to play.

I always remember playing a golf society day and one of our fourball was an Irish guy who was skinny as a whippet but was out driving us by a good 50 yards on every Par 4 & 5. Chatting to him I asked where he learned to hit with such power and he said used to play County hurling in Ireland and the way he 'cocked' his wrists through the ball generated the extra distance and the trajectory of his shots were so different to the rest of us...

One of the all time great hurling photo's from the 1950's........ by the way the ball is in the goalkeepers hand.......

Question from the uninitiated, but is it something similar to lacrosse?
