What a great knock by Root, just saw the highlights and he was outstanding. Good to see all the top 4 get past 50, which hasn't happened for a good while. Let's hope we can get another 30 or 40 runs and then set the attack on India.
I got the year right, but was way off on the detail. NZ v England at Dunedin 2013 Cooke and Compton got hundreds. Trott and Steve Finn passed 50 (Finn came in as night watchman and stuck around).
Just started raining here in Leeds only drizzling at the moment. if and when India get into to bat, the heavy cloud cover will help England.
I'd consider an immediate declaration. Partly for the best bowling conditions and partly to avoid The Goat having to bat.
Wonderful catch by Bairstow to get Rahul on the stroke of lunch. That'll disappoint India, they'd done really well up to that point.
India doing their best to make a game of it, 162-2. Could be good news for Sunday ticket holders, probably not Monday though.
Close of play India still 135 runs adrift but with 8 wickets left, they're doing to us what we did to them yesterday. JA didn't bowl well today, looked generally out of sorts, hope there's not an injury on the horizon... Still, new ball first thing tomorrow and the weather forecast looks ok.
We need to make inroads with the new ball. Otherwise I could still see India making it awkward for us fourth innings. Any chase over 150 would be nerve racking after the last test. Thank **** they didnt play Ashwin.
Been a tough day. Highlight was Bairstows left handed diving catch at slip. Couple of poor reviews as well. Need an early break through in the morning or it could be another long day in the field.
and that's it. comprehensive win built on good bowling from all the seamers and solid batting from the England top order.
Played golf this morning, got back into the clubhouse and switched my phone on expecting India to be at the crease and going strong. What a shock when I found out we had won by an innings and some. Test cricket might be slow at times, buts it’s never predictable. Well done England, looking forward to the next two matches now to see if we can win this series.
I 'studied' at Leeds Poly in Maths. Stats and Computing. My only stats lecture was at 9 am on a Wednesday. Nothing the rest of the day. Unfortunately Tuesday night was promotional half price night. I was introduced to our Stats lecturer at the end of the year 'chenanigans'...he seemed ok, but I was still thrown off the course
