This coming Saturday. Anyone going to a local game?

I have a romantic view of the FA cup and love the early qualifying rounds. I often try to take a couple of games in.

This weekend there is a local derby in my area of exile. Matlock V Belper Utd. I am part of the travelling fans. There are 18 of us meeting at 12 for beer then a local train up the line at 1:30 and a couple in Matlock. Off to the ground, stand where we like, pints in hand, enjoying what will be a blood and thunder affair on the pitch.

Afterwards a pint and a curry. Proper day out, really look forward to it.

Sounds class, enjoy. I'm not going to one myself but I am going to see the lasses play at the SoL on Sunday. First lasses game I'll have been to.

I'm going to Romford against Kings Langley. Should be interesting. Step 4 v Step 3.

Belper Utd are a couple of tiers below Matlock Town aren't they? Would be a big scalp for them.

That should be a good game mate.

Yes Belper not at their level but over the years it has been a real battle when they have played. A couple of year ago Belper did well and got as far as away game at Notts County. That run paid for a new 4g training pitch in part. Just shows what the FA cup can mean.

Money is on Matlock but you never know. I am just looking forward to a good day out and hopefully a decent game to watch.

Yeah, a couple of clubs from round this way have had good FA Cup runs in the last few years, getting to play league clubs etc. Even just getting a decent way through the preliminaries and qualifying rounds can be a big financial boost to clubs. Its more than just a day out at Wembley, the FA Cup. It can make a huge difference to clubs further down the pyramid.

Enjoy your game. I'll keep an eye out for the score.

You'll enjoy it mate. I'm viewing a few houses on Sunday, but hope to be finished in time to go to the game. Hopefully, the Lasses will follow up their win at Coventry with another one in God's House. <diva>

Cracking result mate. Decent game as well, tight at half time but two quick goals secone half. Sounds like yours had some end to the game as well.

A great day out all in. Bit 'tired' now mind <laugh><laugh>

Sounds good! Nothing like the FA Cup (followed by beers and curry).
Yeah, good game down here. Second half fight back from the higher level side. Very informative too :emoticon-0105-wink:

Its replay night for the FA Cup qualifying round tonight. Looks like none of the region's teams are in action but for the exiles, like me, there are some interesting games going on. I'm off to another Step 4 v Step 3 tie and I'd highly recommend taking a trip along if there's one near you.

So…not the qualifying round (apologies OP) but just leaving Spalding United local derby b Stamford. Only worth a mention as Marcus Maddison now plays for Spalding (£1500 per week!! FFS!)
Fair to say Spalding we’re **** 2-0 down at half time. Maddison came on , clearly didn’t care but Spalding ended up winning 3-2 (all goals in 80+ Minutes!)
The highlight though was the punch up BEFORE kick off which saw 2 x red cards - the oppo manager and Spalding c/forward (he’s a big fat bastard though!)
Thoroughly enjoyed the night - 8 pints helped!
    C’mon you Tulips!!!

That's a lot of money at that level
That's the entire weekly budget for some teams! I looked the game up and it looked like a decent size crowd. Do Spalding often get around the 500 mark?

From what I understand the crowds have increased since Maddison joined maybe 300 is about average. Yesterday must have been bigger than most given the moaning about the queue for the bar!
No doubt MM is overpaid, unfit and getting kicked all over… doubt he’ll last the season

300 still isn't bad! I wondered if they might be funding his wages on the back of increased gate money. They might be able to at least partly on gates that size, although I assume they've got a wealthy backer?
Does Maddison stand out? The reason I ask is, I watched a lad a couple of weeks ago at the same level who's played nearly 200 times in League 2 and 50 times in the MLS and I didn't think he looked 5 divisions better than the players around him.

I think the new owner is a guy called Killingsworth (?) owns a big clothing chain I think - he`s clearly worth a few quid - Google says that he`s on the Sunday Times Rich List (976th @ c. £120m)... He`s chucking a few quid at it - manager is ex-Peterborough player (Gabriel Zakuani (sp?) and there`s clearly a decent relationship with Peterborough United (had a friendly vs Posh at which both Darren Ferguson and Sir Alex came along to)...the club genuinely seems to be trying to build bridges into the community to keep gates up (£9 a ticket)

Maddison is clearly a cut above when he`s on the ball - lots of flicks and tricks (seems to enjoy making defenders fall over) but comes across as not hugely interested - last night he came on at half-time and was feeling his hamstring after 5 minutes (he`d been booted up the arse by then and didn`t seem to fancy it!). In fits and starts he looked more than 5 divisions better than the others - the problem was the fits and starts were few and far between!

Oh yes, I'd heard about Zakuani. Seems like it's quite a big operation there then.
