I think the Allams are just more honest than 90% of football owners. They make no pretence of 'listening' unlike most others who go through the whole charade.
His personal net worth is just over £100m. He obviously isn't going to sink every penny he has into us, but he is backed by other people. He's incredibly well connected in Turkey, and he's made TV shows all over the world. As for managers, I think it's safe to say Grant's days are numbered if his comments are anything to go by. My mind immediately sprung to Fatih Terim, but he's managing Galatasaray and I don't think he'd fancy the step down. A few Fenerbache/Besiktas/Galatasaray players coming in wouldn't hurt, though.
I think this is the most concrete takeover links probably since the Allams wrote a farewell in the programme back in 2016, so think this is worth a bit more hope/speculation than anything else in recent times. I'm concerned a bit that his comments about bringing in Turkish players will lead to some pushing back on him through some combination of xenophobia and paranoia, but his comment regarding 'certain' players suggests it would be more about bringing in quality rather than just turning us into a Turkish youth academy.
I have a similar feeling to this as I did when the Allams took over. I was sceptical, but when they brought Bruce in and backed him and let him get on with the job, then I thought for a short while I had been wrong. It didn't take long though for that to change and my fears were realised. I guess time will tell, though we should be heartened by the fact that Assem Allam said he will only sell to a good home, and we all know he is true to his word.
Could you provide a list of successful Turkish owners in English football and their shrewd Turkish managerial choices please? Thanks
Not quite sure the relevance of that to the part that you bolded? Are you suggesting that xenophobia is justified because of that? I could probably count on one hand the number of owners who have been successful and well loved by their supporter base, that doesn't mean we should just accept the Allams.
There was probably some divvy on the Leicester board in 2010 demanding a list of successful Thai owners in English football.
I doubt it. Everyone knew he was a billionaire. This bloke is someone not worth as much as our current owners. And he won't have said he wanted to fill the club with Thais.
It's really not that big a deal what he said about Turkish players/manager. Assem Allam said something very similar around the time we had three Egyptians on the books. The fact he's talking about wanting to make his country proud through ownership of City sounds good to me.
He wasn't a billionaire when he bought Leicester, in ten years his net worth went from $200m, to $5b. In fact, I clearly remember numerous arguments on here with Leicester fans about Allam being worth more than Srivaddhanaprabha.
The last bit does. Doubt if he would get any decent Turkish players her. Apart from the problems of work permits there is the issues of the wage cap. Turkey is a poor country but footballers are relatively very well paid so can lead a lifestyle they could not here on more money never mind less. Doubt if they would enjoy the funeral parlour atmosphere here after the raucous stadiums they are used to. Don't think even the keenest Hullophile would say Hull is more vibrant with more to do than Istanbul and that being on the side of the Humber is more spectacular than being astride the Bosphorous. (Though some would) It would be a hard sell getting any half decent Turkish players here.
