No it isn't, for a start anybody arriving by sea would be ineligible to claim asylum in the UK if it were. Under the UN's refugee status rules there has never been any obligation for an asylum seeker to ask for asylum in the first safe country they enter.
Our government have had years to find solutions and agreements, to deal with this problem, but seem incapable. The French are preying on our indecisive attitude and allowing these boats to leave. I believe it would've been easier to resolve this crisis if we'd still been in Europe. I've no idea what will happen now but two more boats have just arrived in the UK ... ... and its 8am! Priti Patel and the PM were talking about 'turning boats around' months ago but we all know it won't happen. If a boat, with 40 people on board, is pushed back and goes under we'd become pariahs around the world. Stop talking nonsense and work with the French no matter how uncomfortable you find it. Ordinary French people are having to live with thousands of desperate migrants in their towns and villages. It's hard to blame them for wanting the migrants to vanish.
There's no way to stop this without being heartless unfortunately. I'm all for rescuing people, but they shouldn't be allowed to set foot on UK soil until they've been processed. Once that happens they're here forever whether they have a genuine reason or need to be or not.
The Channel has always been our friend but it's now working against us. It's much easier to enforce land borders because you don't have Maritime Law to contend with. Once these boats leave France we're screwed I'm afraid.
Defending our borders was just another lie, pedaled by the dishonorable scum , little better than those peddling safe passage to the promised land. I am not expecting any resolution any time soon.
simple fact, the french do not want them gathering in camps again, they cannot stop them getting into the country so the only solution is to 'not try too hard' when they want to get to the uk. this is just one boat that was known about, i wonder how many more have tried to sneak over in the cover of darkness and not made it or even how many more have made it during the dark hours. word has to be reaching other countries that paints some glorious picture of our country, enough of a picture that people are prepared to walk thousands of miles and leave all they own behind (or sold to pay the traffickers) then they get here and realise it is not all it was made out to be...a bit like many years ago when word across england was that london was where anyone could get rich and the streets were paved with gold etc. the problem being, when they arrive and find out it is actually sh1te they blame the uk for treating them differently and unfortunately that is where resentment begins to build.
French took thousands from us to stop them, then just sit there and watch them, if that's not a protection racket what is, the French Navy also escort them but there are too many to escort another tragedy will happen its down to the French breaking agreements, they even refuse us to patrol the beaches as they would have to care for the migrants
France have at least 7 borders with other countries. Why are they allowed to NOT vet these people first, before they are allowed to actually enter into France in the first place? To enter France and then get to the coas is a bloody hard trek. So, these people will be waltzing on through every region, without being detected? It would take weekes for some to reach the coast....Who's feeding them?...who is sheltering them?......FRANCE !!! If all the French borders were protected, and policed, then these people wouldn't get to the UK. Yes....vet these people first, and if they 'qualify' under the current relavent rules...then we can look after them, if they don't, then they are not our problem. However, processing these people's rights and entitlements should NOT be arranged in the UK. We have approached the French Government to parlay an agreement to process claims for asylum seekers on their turf, however, they have recently refused this !!!!!
as far as im aware mate France has had patrols on all the borders because of covid and still do at least when i go there which is often
Yep.....which also begs the question - How many of these people may also be carriers of Covid etc. This is not a quick fix....the weather has turned to Winter conditions.....and therefore, these people are highly likely to revert to hiding in vehicles.
We keep getting outbreaks with new adaptions, time to link and test all those taken in with fresh outbreaks i bet there is a correlation
Many first arrive in Italy. The main crossing point is Ventimiglia in Italy to Menton in France. If I wanted to avoid the border police on the way back to France, from the massive Friday Ventimiglia street market there were plenty of options. Nice, the nearest big city is highly cosmopolitan with a big North African population. A few dozen new daily immigrants wouldn't raise an eyebrow. Once they're in France the Italians won't have them back so France are stuck with them. It's not illegal to take a busload to Calais so that's what happens. Then it's a short hop to the UK.
https://apple.news/ABDLyPAxgTb6oP-JiBOwnHw https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-n...ts-risk-lives-english-channel-staying-france/ A few of the usual xenophobes blaming France on here but this article is a good one and provides a few facts - percentages who try to reach the uk, why people travel and also points out Brexit is adding to the problem ie we had an agreement in place which has now gone due to a bad deal.
France has been paid a fortune to do the job it was paid for fact, French police stand and watch them launching fact ,it is their country the migrants are amassed fact ,The French let them have shanty towns rather them giving them the milk of human kindness and putting them into prefab accommodation fact Its Macron spitting his dummy out as there is an election due, his pole results are abysmal and he want Britain to give them another 140 fishing licenses to the boats who switched off transponders and stole our fish for years, Even though we have given them over 160 licences more than all other EU countries wishing to fish in Uk ,they still want to cut off electric, block the tunnel and ferry's and chase our fishermen from unloading in French ports, even though we have an agreement , even the EU wont back France in this only yesterday they wanted Belgium to back them they refused, You really need to check your facts before casting aspersions just because one paper has a journalist who wants to twist things, there are plenty of other outlets with the facts i have written about, I can put them up but im not prepared to take the thread off course
How could they let them cross the Channel in THIS? Disturbing picture of 'very frail' dinghy that capsized killing 27 migrants including pregnant woman and three children - as French police patrols do nothing to stop FIFTY more crossing TODAY please log in to view this image
Officials today demanded even more money from the UK taxpayer to stem the flow of thousands of migrants across the Channel each month as the blame game between Paris and London over the deaths of 27 people. As 6,000 crossed to Britain in November alone, the boss of the ports of Calais and Boulogne has insisted that Britain must start paying more on top of the £54million they give to France each year to stop people getting there by dinghy or hidden in lorries.
Priti Patel had, last month, threatened to withhold the money that had already been agreed, stupid move imo. She had also threatened to engage the Royal Navy to 'turn boats around' which is illegal and suggesting it was another error from her. Only cooperating fully with the French will resolve this problem, she's not the best person to skilfully negotiate tbh, Payments only started to be released this month. Monday October 11 2021, 7.30pm, The Times The UK will start releasing chunks of the £54 million deal promised to the French to combat Channel migrant crossings as part of efforts to repair relations with Paris. Damian Hinds, the security and borders minister, responded to a fresh outburst by the French government at the weekend by insisting the money would start to be paid in the “coming weeks”.
Total spent = £114 million The UK and France maintain a longstanding relationship on tackling illegal migration at the shared border; since 2015 the UK has committed several funding packages to supporting this work. In 2015, both countries signed a Joint Declaration which committed £10 million towards security reviews of the juxtaposed controls and to moving migrants nto reception centres across France. This was followed by payments in 2016 (£17 million) and 2017 (£36 million) to further strengthen the border and maintain the operation of the juxtaposed controls. In January 2018 both countries signed the Sandhurst Treaty. The UK made a commitment of €50 million (£45.5m) to implement the terms of the Treaty, which adopted a “whole of route approach” to tackling illegal migration. This was followed in 2019 by the signature of the Joint Action Plan on Combatting Illegal Migration Involving Small Boats. Under paragraph 11 of this plan, the UK committed €3.6m (approximately £3.25m). This was supplemented with a further €2.5m (£2.25m) in the 2019/2020 Financial Year https://www.parliament.uk/business/...nts/written-question/Lords/2020-06-02/HL5038/ this does not cover the 54 million agreed on top of the 114 million that's 168 million daylight robbery ,considering how many they have let through and escorted with warships just hope the bad weather stops them before more deaths as France wont they all wind This is the same EU that is making a fuss about border controls between parts of the UK
Illegal pushback may be, but it is commonplace around the EU's outer land borders - the UK is helping out with this in Poland BBC News - Poland border crisis: What happens to migrants who are turned away? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/59348337 and EU funds are used to pay for this in Croatia https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/eu-migrants-pushback-asylum-illegal-b1933519.html
