I have to do an assembly in school every year about how banter can become bullying in the blink of an eye...drives me mad that word too!
A little piece about our ex player/next manager Jim Magilton. Wouldn't be surprised if this was true. His time at Dundalk has been mired in controvasy and something just didn't seem right the whole time he was there. Ex-Dundalk goalkeeper Cameron Yates has retired from football, following a turbulent year at Oriel Park last season. Here's an excerpt written by his father on the reason behind his decision... "Sadly yesterday at the age of just 22, my son decided to give up his dream and stop playing football based on his experiences for the past few years and the frustrations with injuries that have plagued his progress since the day he first turned professional at Leicester City. This culminated in some terrible deception from the previous owners of Dundalk Football Club over his contract renewal. He was offered a 2-year deal to join Dundalk and all terms were agreed but when the contract was written, the details were all changed by Jim Magilton, and he (Yates) and his agent only discovered on his final day in Dundalk (before returning home for the off-season) that his contract had expired and the 2-year deal he had originally been offered had been changed to end of season 2021. As a result, my son left Dundalk with no future employment and has had no income since that point in time while he waited patiently to hear if his contract would be renewed by the new owners. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. I am advised that it was Jim Magilton who was responsible for this deception and many other goings on behind the scenes during his tenureship which made life so difficult for Vinny Perth. It is also alleged that Magilton was involved behind the scenes in a consortium which was seeking to devalue the club and buy it at a reduced price and while this now sounds very believable, I can only speculate on this as it has not been confirmed." Nothing short of utter madness!
Nathan Tella is arranging his citizenship so he can become a Nigerian international. So a future AFCON inconvenience. Especially if Salisu stays and finally joins up with Ghana Although aren’t they going to be in the summer going forward (and where supposed to be this time but covid messed that up) ?
Personally I don't see how playing for your country in your continents tournament is an inconvenience. Just playing for your country is massive.
Then you clearly didn’t watch Liverpool tonight. Also trips to Africa are far longer. That continent is far larger than what maps will have you believe But that being said I started writing thinking about the tournaments being in January and remembered half way through that it will actually be moved going forward
Me too and he shows a passion that connects with the crowd, but unfortunately, it's a fine line between crowd favourite and scapegoat. A couple of avoidable mistakes and he'll be seen as a liability which would be a shame because I would be prepared to accept that for the entertainment value.
And those couple of mistakes are round the corner, I have no doubt about that. I just hope they're not in the pot today.
Does anyone know why there are no games on 29th Jan? There are no FA Cup games either, they are the weekend after the on 5th Feb. Could we play the Newcastle game then, or is there reason there is nothing scheduled? Next international break is in March, too?
AFCON is hampered by clashing with the European club season, although there has been noises about it switching to summer, I guess it depends which country is hosting as to how viable that is though. The last Asian Cup had the same problem too. The prestige of the tournament is hurt by it being held every two years as opposed to every four too. I don’t think club managers should ever stand in the way of a player representing their country if they want to, but the current scenario isn’t ideal.
A bit odd, also, that there is a full schedule of Championship matches, which are usually cancelled for International breaks, unless I am mistaken.
It does seem completely bonkers that an international break is scheduled with no matches taking place, while there is a mounting backlog of PL games.
