Unlike me to be contrary, but I have to say that I like this. NH yards have been going for a full week of racing and many will have staff involved in P2P racing and probably having a quieter day will do them good.

We are also having small fields so a little reduction in races can only help.

The AW scene can cope with a few days to themselves, although I think three cards of them is too many. Surely we don’t need Monday night racing!

Very true. And yes, we certainly do not need a night time AW meeting but you know well who does need and want one...the bookmaker.

Forgive my ignorance, but yards are surely seven day operations due to animal welfare etc , yes race days will see travel etc , but the daily life of the yard goes on , horses don’t have sunday off do they ?

Yes, they are 7 day a week operations, but they will be working with skeleton staff for at least a couple of these days, giving staff days off and not working the horses as much on the quiet days. So for instance today you might have half the team in the stables, with most horses doing easy work and/or walking. Then there are no staff taking horses racing, preparing them for journeys etc.

At some yards horses get turned out into fields more on certain days (such as Sundays) so they don't have the same monotony of being stabled up.

Hopefully we get to see more of the day to day stable life in any documentaries that are likely to be filmed. The RP ran a story that some were in the planning/development.
