Highly imaginative card at Doncaster - a couple of sprints to open with, then at 2.25 we have the Spring Mile Handicap over the straight mile, followed at 3.00 by the Listed Doncaster Mile Stakes over the straight mile and then at 3.35 The Lincoln over - yep, you guessed it - the straight mile. Then we have 3 consecutive races over 1m 2f 43y to close the card. Jeeeeeeeeeezzzzz. Musselburgh not much better with the first 3 races all hurdle races over 2m 1f 87y. AT least they have a bumper. At least Newton Abbott seem to have given it a bit more thought.
Always like to have a modest flutter on the old Lincoln, and noting Stick's opinion that a low-draw looks as though it's where the speed will be, think I'll go with Saleymm from Stall-3. Had a wind op. since last run 121-days ago. Irish jockey Ross Coakley takes the ride for the S & E Crisford yard. I am not quite so sure about probable favourite Mujtaba, as I feel this big horse might need a bit more time, but I certainly might regret this decision. Best price for selection at time of writing 6/1, generally-available. Place bets on offer with 22-runners in field will no doubt be tempting, so guess I'd better make it E/W.
I like AMETIST. Drawn in the middle so can track the pace wherever that might be (probably low). Has a really nice profile and even the defeats have not been shockers. Third in the Cambridgeshire on last start so has some great experience of a big field hell for leather competitive handicap. From the right yard for this race and market vibes are positive.
You are going to love the flat season! Next you will be asking for a selling hurdle at Royal Ascot!! I did a bit of work on the Brocklesby and horses with an early foaling date do disproportionally better than the younger horses. Horses born in weeks 5,6,7 of the year have very good strike rate and also Percentage of runners beaten rates. Blatant fits this for me, he is also by a sire who does well with debutants in March and April and the yard (and owners) won this race last year. I like that he has horses on both sides and whilst you have to look at the Hannon horse favourably, given it’s breeding and cost, I think Blatant is a decent shout. In the Lincoln the past races suggest you want a four year old who has had 140+ days off and won its last race. As such I’m with the Haggis horse Mujtaba, who fits the profile and also the yard so exceptionally well in this race. The other one that catches my eye is Rogue Bear who helpfully is drawn on the other side. At decent odds he looks interesting and what I think is interesting about him is we don’t know where the ceiling of his ability is, and as a four year old, he could be better than this mark.

Determined not to bother with the flat as it bores me. However my turf accountant has provided me with a free bet to be used at Donny. A cursory glance at the Lincoln shows that United Front has a much lower turf rating than sand. That maybe because he prefers Blackpool beach but I don’t mind chucking some free money at it ew @ 40s. Also Idilico for Dianne Sayer up at Kelso. Again ew @ 20s. Good luck.

My pin has landed on another bait in the Lincoln. Capable of winning first time out with a course win to his name over 7f.
Saleymm ran a hell of a race to finish second, but got nailed in the end by a 28-1 shot, Johan. Flat racing is as tough as NH!
You know, Chan, you are absolutely right, I must stick to the Jumps too, even during the Summer months. Only you and Pilgrim showed any interest in the Lincoln once it had been run. To heck with it, don't know why I bothered working on the 22-runner race and giving a selection! No one asked me too, I know, but I do try to be an active member of the forum's racing section, like many other guys. Yep, the Flat will be generally 'out' for me, except maybe the really big events (e.g. Derby, Arc).
