Wish he would just get on managing South Shields instead of sticking in his nose in to everything SAFC , I know he is a legend and always will be but do we really need a daily bulletin from him everyday which nearly always states the obvious . DON’T BE COMPLACENT , NEED TO MATCH WW PHYSICALITY , how condescending I find it so god knows how Alex Neil listening to this claptrap on a day by day basis must feel . AN has probably forgotten more than SKP knows about football management and does not need his input . Come on SKP let AN manage Sunderland and you get on with your job at South Shields.
KP cannot help his heart, and he wants to manage us, simple as really. South Shields just missed out on promotion so he isn't doing too bad.
They had the biggest budget in the league and were the only full time time. He is a laughing stock there
I find it pretty shameful slagging SKP off after everthing he done for us, and all the good memories he played a huge part in making for any SAFC fan. He's entitled to say anything he wants about our club, because he's earned that right. Yous should be ashamed of yourselves.
TBH mate, if Alex Neil never shut up about Norwich I wouldn't be happy. In all SKP's comments, about Sunderland, he's never said anything that wasn't obvious. And he's never said anything itk or even informative. I dunno how he gets money for the stuff he says.
...and he even gets more attention on here seriously though, were SS not top of the league when he joined them and expected to all but walk it?
his opinions annoy me but lets get something straight here - he's not sticking his nose in. Football Insider have been great at getting transfer scoops on us. but when there's no transfer news they are looking for clicks constantly. they will be texting him asking for comments constantly. He'll spend 30 seconds giving a pretty obvious answer, they'll pay him £250 for it, and then turn it into a sensational headline. hardly sticking his nose in.
It would be more to his credit if he just kept quiet , as he comes over as just having nothing to say, to put it politely. He is not the only one mind.
We have definitely been here having this conversation before. There are some who believe that ex-players on particular Phillips and Gray are immune to any criticism. Just because of what Super Kev did on the pitch doesn't mean he can spout whatever he wants and no fan is allowed to criticise him. He can say what he wants for me, but I will point out that he is uninformed and seems to have little interest in the club these days and either states the obvious or something totally wrong that an Liverpool fan from Essex would probably come out with if asked the same question about us! If he is going to accept payment for talking about us spend a couple hours a week keeping in touch with what's going on and fan feeling! He was happy that Donald was staying around because KLD was young and could do with a bit of metoring on how to run a club!
Just seen this…. Best commentary ever https://twitter.com/CFCRetro/status/1524343450547728390?ref_src=twsrc^tfw|twcamp^tweetembed|twterm^1524343450547728390|twgr^|twcon^s1_c10&ref_url=https://www.givemesport.com/88007305-funniest-premier-league-commentary-ever-kevin-phillips-2005-goal-vs-chelsea
I'm not sure what football insider want from SKP? He played for us 20 years ago and from what believe, has no real contacts within the club. Kevin Ball was the last one of his generation. So they pay him a few quid for an opinion quote and he has to 9 times out of 10 state the obvious from the outside looking in.
I do not think we will see a goalscorer of his like again at our club and if we do they won't be around long . He would have been snapped up for 150 million after that first premier league season if not going for 30 odd that first season in Division 1 these days. He had it all in terms of finishing, for a little bloke he was good with his head aswell. I still believe he was not lauded by neutrals and pundits to the level he should have been (only benefited us as we managed to hold on to him and he might have retired with us had we kept up in the top 10). Unfortunate for him he was in the days of English strikers there was a few good ones floating about then!
I agree with you. He was exceptional - the England thing was distasteful though. It was a Shearer closed lobby. Full stop. Clique after clique after clique- Mary Poppins is a Cnut
Aye, it has been said it was Shearer refused to play with him. Which to be honest is odd behaviour but typical mag behaviour! Super Kev was under appreciated because he didn't make to England regular!
The point I am making is that he is one of many who has earned legend status at SAFC but it does not entitle all and sundry to make meaningless and obvious remarks about the club . If he was saying things that were constructive and structured I would support his input but when he is stating the obvious it grates on me - money for old rope comes to mind . Therefore I have to disagree about anyone being entitled to say anything they want about the club and I certainly not feel ashamed of my opinion . As I said SKP manage at South Shields AN manage SAFC end of story .
If he's stating the obvious why are you getting so wound up then mate? Its just like me and you coming on here and saying obvious things, would that pish you off aswell? The blokes an absolute legend, so it doesnt really sit right with me reading threads like this with follow up comments of people speaking bad about him. Its pretty embarrassing really. I cant imagine many other teams reacting the same way about one of their own legends to he honest. Some people have short memories.
