I attended a match at Stradey, towards the end of his playing days. He was close to the all time scoring record, and expectations were high that he would reach the goal during the game.
A young full back was making his debut, and he had a nightmare time with his penalty kick attempts, missing most, if not all, of his opportunities.
Bennett chipped away at the potential record, but time was running down. Eventually, Scarlets had a penalty in front of the posts, so expectations were that he would take the kick. He turned to the young full back, and told him to take it. The young lad duly kicked the goal, thereby rescuing his game somewhat.
The game ended with Bennett still shy of his record due to that act of generosity.
He was that kind of a man. Humble and generous.

Tried watching this earlier today, but couldn't get past a few minutes of it. Phil a mere shadow of his former self. Cancer is such a bastard.

Tributes have been paid to Tyrone hurling star Damian Casey after he died following an accident in Spain.

It is understood Mr Casey (aged 29) had travelled for a wedding, where he was to be a groomsman.

He passed away following an accident at a swimming pool.

Considered Tyrone’s greatest ever hurler, he had helped his home county to Nicky Rackard Cup glory only last month. He also played for club side Eoghan Ruadh, Dungannon.

The Gaelic Players Association said: “Damian stood out as a person and leader. On the pitch he was a magician of rare skill. He was one of us. He was among the best of us.”

    RIP <rose>

Cancer campaigner Dame Deborah James has died at the age of 40, her family has said, describing her as an "inspiration".

She had been receiving end-of-life care for bowel cancer at home and had raised millions to help others affected by cancer.

The host of the BBC's You, Me and the Big C podcast was given a damehood in recognition of her fundraising work.

Dame Deborah, a mother of two, was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2016.

    RIP <rose>

    More of god's work.

RIP to the brave lady. <rose>
Sad news for her family, all who knew her.

Good news for the odious windsor trash, however, as they pounce on yet more photo ops to show the mug public that they really do care, and are so nice.

Former Wales tourist Alan John has died.

The openside flanker and brother of the great Barry John played for Llanelli RFC when part of the national squad that toured Argentina in 1969.

Alan had started with Cefneithin before heading for Stradey Park and, after a short stint back with Cefneithin, later joining Tumble, where he acquired legendary status as a player and then as a coach. Tumble announced his passing on social media, describing him as "a club legend".

    RIP <rose>
