So that's it. You're off. A player who apparently 'divided opinion' has left us with the club's blessing. A memory I shall hold of you is walking across Stanley Park after that 2017 semi-final win at Anfield. I was chatting to a group of Reds and discussing the game. As I got to my car they wished Saints well, then one said, 'When youse took Redmond off, I thought thank **** for that. That bloke is scary.' A lot of opposition fans told me they were terrified of you. Almost as many as Saints fans who assured me that you were 'crap'. Maybe I only saw you on good days, but you gave me some great moments when I travelled home thinking about a goal (like the one that you scored right in front of us in the Northam in the first leg) or a brilliant run that made an opponent look stupid. Perhaps, as with other creative players we should have accepted that things didn't always work out. Good luck, Nathan.
Ah, the divide! Brilliant tribute from Nathan which made me even nearer with him. Had so much potential that he didn’t really deliver and that’s what frustrated me so much. Probably the most frustrating player I’ve seen play for Saints in my 50 yrs of watching SFC. So, so wanted him to achieve more. Hats off Nathan. Have worked in Istanbul & Besiktas became my club just because they weren’t the local MU or LFC. Go smash it lad
A lot going on at the moment but pretty piss poor that there are only 2 responses to this. A player that had good games and poor games, so bascially a human footballer just like all the others. As good as anyone on his day. Wore his heart on his sleeve and was here for a lot of years so thanks Redders for the good times and hope there are a lot more in your new league. Rip it up. edit - good to see a lot more well wishers on the summer transfer thread.
It was posted 6 hours ago near midnight. Most of us were asleep I liked Redmond, seemed humble, was a decent player and always gave his all. The old twat behind me at St Mary’s would probably think differently
Redmond was a model pro. Always worked hard and threatened defences. I think the fact nobody wanted him to leave suggests how fans felt about him. He may not have been a world beater like Mane, but if he was he wouldn’t have stayed with us for 6 years. Best of luck Redders!
Put me out of my misery by scoring very late on a freezing cold night in a cup tie against Norwich (iirc, suppose I could check), thus saving us from the unwelcome prospect of extra time. For that, and a handful of spectacular goals, I will always be grateful.
Seems everyone had an identikit moany old bastard sat behind them when Redmond/Guly/Shane Long played.
Occasionally brilliant, sometimes frustrating. Gave his all over a number of years at a tricky time for the club. Mostly though, for really winding up the Facebook and Twitter experts. I wish him well.
There was a period about 4 years ago when he was our best player. People found him frustrating because of what they thought he COULD have been…. But it’s always important to remember if he had been that player regularly enough he’d not have been playing for us Good luck to him
All the best Nathan. Probably didn't realise your potential here but still had some memorable moments. In particular the important 4th goal at Fratton which will live with me forever. Always a bit of a strange one Redders. Nearly always felt like he was underperforming but when we were **** under Pellegrino/Hughes I often came away from games feeling he was our best player. Think it's definitely the right time for both parties. He seems to be a good egg off the pitch too and I hope he can find a new lease of life.
Best of luck Redders, frustrating at times, brilliant at others. Definitely didn’t deserve the dogs abuse he received, some people just need a scapegoat.
All the best for the future Redders! Scoring a really good goal against our fishy chums was my highlight!
Redders is on the bench for Besiktas, I hope he gets on and scores a goal like Oriol did on his debut.
I'm probably in the minority that thought he did well for us. At least he always offered something different. Probably the right time to go (if not last season) for all parties
And Svensson! I can still hear the old bastard behind me shouting “Anders, Anders!” Too far away to punch
Always supported Redders, loved his partnership and friendship with Bertie, gave us some good moments, worked hard Often felt that if he believed in himself a little more he could have achieved more, but he tried his best and you can’t ask more than that
Couldn’t agree more with all of this. I still think he is a better option than a couple in the squad, even now. But I understand why he wants to go. Thanks Redders
