This should be an interesting listen. Someone in a relevant position at the council on to discuss realistic options for the fair and sports village.

The bloke from the Council sounded hopeless on Burnsy's show, waffled a lot, kept referring to the Walton Street as the fairground (when Burnsy kept calling it the car park) and mumbled some nonsense about having a movable aspects to the Sports Village. It didn't sound he the Council had any intention of moving the fair.

Any suitable brownfield site should be the choice over greenfield sites. Derelict urban areas are just a waste.

Keeping any area empty for fifty weeks a year is a waste, at least on grass the site can be used all year round.

Yeah sorry, I mean for the sports village. A few are throwing out random other sites for the training ground.

I don't know if the sports village plan is suitable but it has to be the choice if it is.

Tan tells us they're thinking big, if he wants to see big he should visit Leicester's new training ground, not so much a village as a town. 21 playing surfaces, including 14 full size pitches, 499 seat floodlit show pitch, gym, hydrotherapy facility, swimming pool, admin and medical facilities, and a nine hole golf course. A snip at £100m. Their old training ground is now used by Leicester City Women. :emoticon-0100-smile

Said it from the first minute Hull Live blurted it out. Of course the council will not commit to moving the Fair with an election looming up. They will sit on the fence trying to please both sides until all the votes are in. Steve Brady did the same. In oppostion he was all for developing the site, which changed full circle when they got back in power because they feared a back lash from the voters. Remember he said he would have to put it to a referendum?

It seems the fair does need some hard standing, Nottingham uses a car park for part of their fair and The Hoppings doesn't have a lot of the big rides.

Sure MKM could provide some aggregate, cement and rebar, a couple of shovels and a barrow.

You are right. Sounded hopeless. And he's supposedly the REGENERATION Officer!! I think we can wave goodbye to any dreams of some large scale, impressive PL standard Sports Village on that site. Clearly too entrenched in their views on protecting a 2 week a year travelling fair. I think the guy needs a different more fitting job title - any ideas?
Really disappointed listening in. I'd hoped something really positive was coming given that he'd agreed to come on the show. Disappointed but not in the least bit surprised.

Even if we could magically solve the issue of Hull Fair, is a sports village around the stadium, that would fit in enough pitches and buildings for both the mens training and the academy, actually physically possible?

I'm wondering whether a workable plan will end up being in two parts - something like a regeneration of some of the land/facilities around West Park for public facing businesses such as sports complexes, hotels & hospitality, gyms, rehab/fitness, retail, fan villages - while retaining enough of Walton Street to keep the parking and the fair (and the market if we must). That should keep the Council happy. And then longer term look to consolidate the training & the academy on one site - which I guess is not urgent as we managed ok last time we were in the PL, but if we find a source of money/pockets deep enough would be a once-in-a-generation investment in the club like the building of the stadium was. A springboard for the next 20-30 years. Would looking south of the river work for that? Plenty of land, easy hop over the bridge, nearer the airport...?

Well I hope the club have the sense to **** HCC off.... approach ERYCC and say what can you offer us. As I've said before IMO, for the long term any 'quality' development needs to be outside of the hustle and bustle of a main thoroughfare... and yes, we know Man City did it, but they inherited a wonderful stadium at negligible cost. Just as a side issue/question, what is the life does anyone think of the MKM.

If there was a desire from the council to do this, it would have been done years ago.

There isn't and I think it's exactly why Tan put it into the public domain to try and get public support.

I do understand why the Allams wanted to move us to the East Riding and shove 2 fingers up at the council, it's like talking to a wall. Everything with any ambition is blocked. The Cruise terminal looked on paper to be a good idea, yet that's fallen by the wayside too
