And that was a gigantic risk for us to do too, but even though it's ended up working out in hindsight, Arteta could have very justifiably been sacked a couple of times - in fact, if he was at any other top club, the likelihood is he would have been sacked. The truth is Bayern are a much bigger club than us, have higher standards/expectations than us and they were never in the complete and utter ****show of a mess that we were in just before Arteta took over. Their fans and club hierarchy would never, ever tolerate finishing outside of Europe (nor should they). So the dynamics, pressure and constraints are very different. Going from getting relegated with Burnley to joining one of the largest institutions in the world (and everything that comes with that) seems insane. Especially when Bayern also have a selection of other managers they could pick from - managers who are better placed than Kompany to deliver success.
Chelsea sacking poch a few months ago wouldn’t have come as a surprise to anyone, but this departing of ways is now a real surprise. It was beginning to look like they were a genuine threat in the final 3rd of the season. Poch looked to actually be making a difference, much in the same way he did with us in his early days. Only it was arguably more challenging doing it at Chelsea with the abundance of names that he had to piece together into something that resembled a team. I don’t see anyone else doing as well with the same group of players. - which means that they’ll need to sign more players to suit the new manager. Which means they’ll have to sell heavily to meet FFP. There could well be a bit of an opportunity this summer to raid Chelsea this summer, perhaps at discounted prices.
I suspect Poch was behind the departure. It’s hard to see how anyone could be happy working with owners who are clueless and just throw money about without any thought. Results improved at the end of the season, but the team still looked dysfunctional. He probably didn’t want many of those players who were recruited for eyewatering amounts, but it’s hard to see how the club could recoup enough of their outlay for him to be able to buy players he would want. The brief was probably to get the best out of what he had - and maybe he thought he couldn’t do any more.
He’d be a fool to take the job now. The team needs a massive overhaul and there aren’t funds available unless the deadwood can be offloaded for decent money, which is unlikely. It can’t happen overnight. It is a longer term project for Utd, involving redevelopment of the ground and surrounding area whereas Chelsea expect immediate success.
2-0, Lookman with his second. Look man, Leverkusen you need to fix up if you wanna keep that unbeaten season.
Nah this is just what Leverkusen do. They lure you in to a false sense of security. Then score in 90+2 and equalise in 90+7.
