The gun has fired and we are off!

We have a little distraction from our fabulous Club's future debate.

    Drowned and Out!

    upload_2024-5-23_6-59-8.png

I have lived thru 20 Elections from Churchill, Thatcher, Blair and Boris.
This is perhaps the most important.
    Our country desperately needs change.

Trouble is Gaffer, these people are so rich nothing that they do impacts on them or there friends.
Look at the carers debacle. earn a pound over & you lose your whole allowance, yet get given 230 million for unusable PPE & not a problem, you keep it.

Why did he call it earlier than expected, was he on the verge of having enough letters of no confidence submitted.

Timing has been carefully chosen, he is hoping for a low turnout, middle of the Euros, Scotland first week of their summer holiday so most likely will be away.

Think I will be voting for an independent this year

The Tories will rightly get booted out, and hopefully lose hundreds of seats.

14 long years in charge and it's been rife with pretty much everything getting worse. Add in crashing the economy, blatant corruption, inflation, highest tax level in return for naff services, sleaze, and lining the pockets of the rich over helping the working and middle classes - they should be ashamed. But they won't be.

This is the last thing we need. But in fact, we don’t have a Labour Party either but a wolf in sheep’s clothing, rebranded with Union Jacks. Since the Brexit referendum all of politics has descended into farce and the running of the country with it.

Highest TAX levels due to the £400 Plus Billion spent on Furlough keeping 10m Million people in work throughout the pandemic you mean? or the £100 Billion spent on mitigating the rising energy costs inflicted by the Russian invasion of Ukraine? No wonder Taxes are at record highs right now as the bills have now to be repaid.

Warky, I like you but you have been reading the wrong papers! And the classic broken corrupt Govt line of blaming all the others.

Oh so we should forget about all this factual stuff because it doesn't fit in with your own narrative <laugh>

Don't forget austerity which crippled our public services and significantly increased borrowing costs to unsustainable levels before that.

Don't forget the disaster of Brexit that led to a shortfall of workers in key sectors (such as healthcare), as well as poorer trade deals and higher costs of imports/exports. We binned off a manufacturing-led economy for a services-led economy, then shot it in both feet with a hard Brexit.

Don't forget this Government putting its collective head in the sand and ignoring the effects of an ageing population, spiralling care costs, and the real threat of climate change. A long-term inability to resolve any of these issues.

Don't forget Liz Truss and the damage she inflicted within 40 odd days, raising interest rates and almost crashing the UK public pension fund with her swivel-eyed, harebrained schemes. 4.3 million children living in relative poverty and the 7.5 million-strong NHS waiting list in England.

The highest tax burden is a sticking plaster to cover up the above, including your points. But this government's record on the economy, not to mention other areas, has been nothing short of a self-inflicted shambles.

    To quote somebody very recently:

I was first old enough to vote in the 1979 Election and it was Maggie all the way for me! I started up my first business, bought my first house and went on to make a packet by the end of the 80's. Great days!

The trouble is not people on the right like Warky who know right from wrong and choose wrong. The trouble is the many folks in the middle who believe the lies.

The trouble is we all want a perfect world but want someone else to sort it out and pay for it.

That’s exactly what the Tories want people to feel so they can carry on being greedy. There is more than enough to go around.

He called it earlier on the back of inflation falling to its near target, the hope of the BoE dropping interest rates around the time of the election (although any drop in rates will probably be pushed back in reality) and his Rwanda bill that he is hoping will come in to force soon. In other words, so he can say look what we have achieved which, is what he did in that pathetic speach last night. Whereas, in reality his government has destroyed the economy, made every middle income family poorer and pushed the world towards the brink of nuclear war alongside the Biden/Obama administration. I'm sure Labour will happily pickup the baton and continue the madness though.

Neither mainstream party will be getting my vote.

Not a good idea Gaffer!! I ended up having mahoosive arguments with my parents over brexshit. We now agree to just not discuss it, otherwise it would end in tears, although when they moan about the state of the country....I can't help but gloat a little and just say....it's what you voted for!!
